Recommend me series in the spirit of NS

The other day, to my own surprise, I really got hooked on the ninja scroll series.
Things that fall in the realm of what can be called a cartoon usually holds no appeal what so ever for me (with the exception of south park and simpsons - and on very rare occasions, family guy).

But I sat trough the entire ninja scroll series while working (I always have something running in the background) and I was thoroughly entertained to the point where I didn't mind the context.

Can anyone recommend more stuff in the same spirit as ns? Nothing too cutesy and especially nothing with a meager supply of frames in animation; like still frame zooms and what not. I'd prefer stick figures if it would dictate smoother animation.
