Wichita, Kansas

I live in Wichita, Ks and can tell you that they did not do much research on this city. For instance there is not a lake here. We have the Arkansas river. The closest lakes are about 45 minutes away from the city. And also the strip clubs here are not in the city limits as it is illegal. But the strippers here pretty much look like that. And most people I know are always trying to save money to get out of Wichita, so that part was true. Don't get me wrong. I did like the movie. I just wish that they did a little more research on this city.

Well I think the thing about the lake being 45 minutes away was put the right way. I got the idea that Vic and the main character were driving for awhile to get to the lake.

Also, they did mention Strip Clubs were going to be outlawed. Maybe the movie was just set in an earlier time. They just said christmas eve, no year as far as I can rememeber.

i dont live in Kansa though so maybe i should just shut up

Your right it could have been an earlier time. But it has been illegal for about 10 years now and the author of the book is from here and it was written earlier as well. So your right it could have been.

That plot point is left over from the book, which is set in 1979, and the film is set in current times.

It's Christmas Eve in rainy, icebound Wichita, Kansas, and this year Charlie Arglist (John Cusack) just might have something to celebrate.

reply

Yes Wichita Falls is in Texas

I'm not really sure what that has to do with Wichita, KS

i was saying that because of the writing in on the bathroom wall.."As wichita falls so falls wichita falls" referencing to wichita falls texas..not wichita kansas..unless im misconstruing the quote

There are actually three strip clubs in Wichita city limits. The Red Garter on 53rd, close to Merdian. Jezzabells on MacCarther and K-15, also Pleasures on S. West St near 31st. As much as farktard mayor Mayans likes to think they're not in city limits, they are in city limits.

There are plenty of ponds that people refer to lakes around here though. The that comes to mind is the one at I-235 and West street. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=I-235+(S)+%26+S+West+St,+Wichita,+KS+67217&ll=37.637242,-97.390795&spn=0.014173,0.040770&t=k&hl=en

Actually they are out of the city limits. The city has grown and it does seem like they would be considered in the city limits but it is not. I use to live not far from Jezzabells and I was outside the city limits. So technically they are. As far as the ponds go, I know no one that calls ponds lakes. The ponds you refered to in the map. One use to be a boys home and just recently has been sold and people are building houses around it. Most "lakes" that you point out are housing developments that made their own "lake" and built houses around it. Except for the people living there, no one considers them real lakes. And you certainly would not dump a body in them. Funny they you gave that map. I can actually see my house from there.

Don't worry about it, when they shot "Hard Rain" in my town they added a movie theatre, a McDonalds, a Giant Statue in the middle of 4th and Main st, a giant damn right outside of our town and a jail! It happens!

reply

I know. I just thought after all of the money they put into a movie they would at least do a little research. But it is movies and it is make belive. But the one thing they got right is a lot of people here really want out of here.
