on the lake...

my newspaper's review said that john cusack's character does something so despicable on a frozen lake that we can't feel any sympathy for his character.

just wondering what he does? i don't care about spoilers, just curious as to what he did that was so messed up.

*****SPOILER*****

He throws Vic's dead wife on top of Vic (who's in the lake and can't swim), thus causing Vic to drown.

Dick Laurent is dead

reply

yea that's pretty messed up.

thanks.

I thought it was fitting since Vic was going to kill him and dump him in the lake anyways. He was scheming with Connie Nielsen's character to leave town with the money so an icy grave sounds like a decent place for him to be in.

Zed's dead baby, Zed's dead.

Not to mention Vic killed his own wife. It didn't change my opinion of Charlie at all... just made me sad that he didn't throw his wife and mother in law in with him.

And it was pretty damn funny too, in a dark way.

Yeah, when Vic was like, "help me, I'm cold", and then John Cusack's character walked away, then thought about for a minute when he realized that Vic was the only one who knew where the money is hidden, and finally decides to save him. However, as he gets to the lake, Vic is already a human popsicle when he sinks underwater. I found it funny that it took less than two minutes for Vic to freeze to death, and if it were real life, how would the news report the scene of the crime? A man, along with his wife and other man were found dead in a lake in what appeared to be a botched dumping by two men.

just one comment. when u watch this type of movie u cannot worry about reality at all. if u do, u will not like this movie at all. there were a few scenes that I (as a real life policeman) had to just forgive. quickly here is one: the cop that kept running into Charlie suddenly did not have a partner and was subsequently killed. this was all set during one night. where did his partner go?
what i am saying is "who cares about these scenes". it is suspension of belief that is needed.

people can die in less than two minutes in water that cold, especially when you have a bullet hole in your stomach and a body on top of you.

In the book, and in the original ending (an extra on the DVD) Cusak's character doesn't get a happy ending.
