Is this a remake? I remember it in B&W

I remember seeing this story, nearly exactly as people are describing it, but in B&W from maybe the 1940's 0r 50's.

I see there are some TV episodes with the same name but they are coulor and from the last 10-years or so. And I understand their is a book; So I'm thinking there may be other movies of this story with another title.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

You are either mistaken or confusing it with a similar story, as the book (by Mitch Albom) was not published until 2003.
