Films about Australia

i dont know may be its just me, but the movies i watched about australia are pity sad movies, about losers, drug addicts, and how life in Australia is harsh and difficult. i lived in australia for several years, and life in australia is nothing like in these movies.
this is the movies i watched

finished people
lantana
samersault
lantana
wolf creek
eny
la espagnola
does anyone think so?

reply

i would hardly say that lantana was about drug addicts and harsh australian life. it was about marital problems in a group of middle class australians. same goes for somersault, that one was about a teenage runaway in the ACT.we do have teenage runaways and married couples having affairs. la spagnola was set in a remote country area in the 1950s (i think), which doesn't really fit in with a comment regarding contemporary australia in (i'm guessing) an urban/suburban setting.
movies about drug addicts in australia are set in particular areas that do have drug problems, obviously this is not going to be reflective of the whole country.

Yeah I know what your saying.

I just did an essay on Australian Identity for english, an I acturally believe that it depends on who you are and what expericences you have. The people in the finshed people come from low-income families in western Sydney alright.

But they would be brought up differently to the people living in a middle-class fmaily in Morisset NSW (like me), even though the area is poor, we are not full of crime and drugs, but we are not the sterotype outback crocodiles hunters either. Is there such thing as NORMAL in Australian film?

Becasue its either depressing 'The finshed People', A bunch of surfing preteen minded idiots 'Home and away' or sterotype crocodile outback, 'g'day mate' (like crocodile dundee)

So yes, kalit-1 I agree.

There are many aspects of Australian life that are reflected in these filems, you just have to be in the right places...
