Major Angus McCorquodale was killed in action on May 31st 1940 and is buried in the Warhem Communal Cemetry, twelve miles SE of Dunkirk, in Row A, Grave 2.
The cemetry is maintained by the Commonwealth Wargraves Commission and ninety men rest there, thirty of whom are unidentified.
Five other men of the Coldstream Guards are buried there including four killed in the same series of actions on the same day as the major. (Date of death at the cemetery is given as June 1st 1940.)
Major McCorquodale was by all accounts a noted eccentric - famous for shunning the regulation helmet for a papier mache example of his own creation. He also disapproved of the newly issued standard battledress, prefering to heavily customise his own, saying (from memory so apologies if it's not quite accurate!), "I don't mind dying for my country, but I'm damned if I'll do it dressed as a third rate chauffeur".
