Heard this mentioned...

I heard this movie mentioned alot in a SLumdog millionare thread,
I enjoyed that movie, and think I would quite like to see this one, but I have a question, Is it easy to get a hold of in the U.K (I've only just heard of it, so wouldn't know if the mainstream DVD stores sell them, but the HMV closest me has a very small world cinema section..)
Any help would be appreciated!

Yeah, Danny Boyle himself recommended Black Friday, which is about the 1993 Bombay bombings. Boyle also mentioned that the torture and chase scenes in Slumdog Millionaire were inspired by Black Friday.

I don't think Black Friday was ever released in the UK (or even outside of India), so it will probably be difficult to get hold of its DVD in the UK. The last time I checked the world cinema section of HMV or Virgin Megastores in London, I could hardly find any Indian independent films like Black Friday there. The only Indian films there are usually the Bollywood musical stuff, rather than independent films like Black Friday. The only way I could get hold of the movie was by downloading it from the internet through BitTorrent.

Thanks! I'll give it a try!

Actually, I was wrong. It looks like Black Friday did get a limited UK release a year or two ago. However, the UK version of the film is slightly censored according to IMDb:

I like this movie but its a rip off from the movie La battaglia d'algeir. Oh I mean inspired or remade without any rights or credits.

@ shangar87

I haven't seen La battaglia d'algeir, but it is an insult to call this movie a rip off from another movie. AK himself says that the said movie is one of his fav but that does not mean it is a rip off. Just becoz there might be some similarity in styles of direction/cinematography does it mean it is a rip off. Elsewhere it is said that Danny Boyle was inspired by the Chase scene of Black Friday to make the Slumdog Millionaire opening scene. So does that make SM a rip off? Absolutely not.

The movie is about Bombay riots and a great part of the story is known to most of us. But he puts the same in an unbiased manner and that is his skill.

I recently watched the movie here. I am also in the UK but dint go after any dvd hunt. i was able to watch it on youtube, with the quality being good and all. if your not too big on piracy i suggest you go watch it on youtube. if you like it you can always buy the dvd and stuff.

i highly reccomend the movie

You can always buy the DVD (which has subtitles) from a number of online sources, some of them based in India, some of them based in the US. I recommend Induna, Musicindiamovies, and Nehaflix. Check the Bollywhat forums DVD Discussion section. They usually know about stuff like this and have good reviews.
