yes, that is true. it is the way "you" can have a representation of a physical stimulation in absence of the stimulus. it does not only interest vision, but also touch, hearing, taste and so forth.. there are plenty of evidences through neuroimaging methods (pet, fmri, spect) and that is in no way doubtable.
the fact is that a certain brain area doesn't activate in response to your experiencing a representation of, say, the face of jesus christ. rather, you can "see" the face of jesus christ exactly because the same area devoted to the encoding of retina's image of j.christ activates. this is very logical, it'd be rather bewildering if it wasn't.
the interesting point is: WHY a certain area activates even if that physical stimulus doesn't appear? because I "want" to do that? mmmmmmm, that doesn't explain anything, unless we acknowledge the existence of some kind of "soul" or "extra-biological intentionality fluid" or "ghost in the machine" and so forth, and I don't.
unfortunately, the interesting point hasn't been addressed properly in that movie.
all seems too magic, too optimistic, in the last analysis, not scientific.
the quantum physics seems to me to be NOT the most suitable model for investigating the brain. although a measuring tape is a reliable tool for measuring the size of a table, I wouldn't use it to measure the extent of the equator.
and, YES. the movie provides with a riot of BS. I didn't like it at all.
about the water.... ahahahhah, WAF! it isn't worth a discussion.
moreover, what are all those lightnings allegedly occurring into the brain?!!? that is the only brain in the word entirely composed by gap-junction, a mere imaginative, ridiculous, false description.
furthermore, how can an exponent of "the school of enlightenment" dare speak about cognitive functions?
"I" prefer being an aware "victim of the brain", rather than a "victim of illusions".
