Seen this a while ago...

I saw this movie when I was younger, and I understand now that some things about the film are not helpful or perhaps irresponsible, but only because some people may take certain statements in the movie too far. I didn't end up joining a cult or anything, it just felt right when people would say that you have control over how you feel about circumstances in your life. I got that idea from other sources of course, not just from this movie, but I will always think fondly of this movie because whatever I got out of it has contributed to my pretty simple viewpoint: that you should be kind to yourself, and to others.

I can't even say that this movie contributed anything new, but perhaps it's safe to say that this movie has sparked people to think about deeper questions. It did for me. One bad philosophical movie that sparks discussion or argument can't be as bad as mindless action films that promote all sorts of unhelpful value systems.

I wish there would be more anger directed at films that encourage people to like violence.

Anyway, if this movie, or anything in life, helped you or anyone else feel just a little more sympathetic, or understanding towards others, then I think the movie can't be as bad as so many users make it out to be.

Religions that taught people to feel guilty, to hate themselves and to hate people who are different have caused so much more suffering than any misguided ideas about quantum physics.

Some facts in the movie that I always remembered and first heard through this movie included the fact that your brain does rewire and change over time depending on what you do. Making a habit out of being positive and kind makes it easier to keep doing it as time passes, like rewarding your brain with porn rewires your brain to create that cycle of addiction. Refraining from angry comments and hating on others helps your brain to crave combative interactions with others less and less.

Try it ;)
