found this film disturbing...

The execution of the film itself was mediocre (acting wasn't phenomenal, but wasn't the worst I've seen either, cinematography was good, storyline flowed well, directing was good)... however, I was looking forward to an anthropological film which would enlighten me to a culture I am not familiar with... instead, I was presented with an extremely ethnocentric and prejudicial film packed with a fundamentalist, discriminating misinterpretation of Christian ideology. I'm sure this film has fans in some arenas, but I would not personally recommend this film at all.

what do you mean by "fundamentalist, discriminating misinterpretation of Christian ideology"? what examples from the film are you talking about?

Epic failure, OP. The film showed people who were missionairies helping a savage tribe live better. If there was evangelism in this film, it was quite subtle, and in your own mind, which shows where you are really coming from.

The fact is that the poor people of the world are helped almost solely by missionairies. It's quite obvious the film makers kept to the facts of the case, because they didn't evangelize. If you feel the facts would convert people to Faith, then you obviously have problems. You just showed your own prejudice. But thanks for illustrating the rabid bias some people have against theism by attacking a film that doesn't even take a theological side, but merely reports what people felt and did. That speaks volumes.

Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time
that's not funny!

"Quite subtle"? Is there some other movie called "End of the Spear" that DOESN'T feature a huge glowing angel at the end? The final climatic ending shown is not "facts of the case," as Steve was never attacked by the Waodani. In fact, he and the Waodani have felt only love and friendship towards each other. You can see this for yourself in the documentary Beyond the Gates of Splendor, which tells the story as it really happened.

As for your comment that "the poor people of the world are helped almost solely by missionairies (sic)" - that is also entirely untrue. A quick Google search for "atheist charities" will tell you otherwise. One prominent and well-known atheist charity is Foundation Beyond Belief.

Steve isn't attacked in the movie. Not sure where you got that idea. They begged him to stay with them.

How can it be both "Fundamentalist" and a "misinterpretation of Christian ideology?"
