genius from GD

There is a scene in this movie that sums up Depardieu's grace, and genius as an actor, he’s just walking across a field, his character seemingly lost in his work and he stops and picks up a wildflower and admires it. And in that moment you get the whole character, small, but says it all.

Oh I completely agree....its the little things he does which are so natural...

The other brilliant bit was right at the end when he awakes from the coma and finally looks at her....eyes, eyes and eyes again....he isn't Gerard, he's Antoine....

reply

Isn't it the eyes? Always? GD knows how to dance with them. Truthfully.
That makes him, the one, and the only: GD!

reply

Yep, no one like him...when they made him they threw away the mould....lol
Unique...

“Depardieu: A Biography” by Paul Chutkow is a fantastic read. Also: GD’s cookbook is full of wonderful recipes!

reply

And I have both...!

Chutkow's book is great. It gives great background to the tortured genius that is Gege...

With his cookbook, I haven't tackled any of the recipes yet....I'm still waiting in vain for him to pop round and cook something up for me...now wouldn't that be fun? Forget 'celebrity chefs'! - Just point me in the direction of a Frenchman who is passionate about cooking food right...

reply

Genius? I call it direction from the director.

Einstein was a genius. GD was following instructions.

reply

The term genius is used loosely in the sense that you can have someone who is exceptional in their chosen field...
GD is not of the Hollywood ilk and doesn't work in the same way. Many directors do not "direct" him and certainly wouldn't tell him to 'follow instructions' as you put it. Suggest look at how many awards/nominations and comments from fellow actors to find out that he is not just some dumb actor...
