Huge continuity error?

I didn't think it was a terrible movie, but not stellar either.

But did I miss something or did they really screw something up at the end? Jackson clearly hands his badge and gun to his lieutenant (and she does clearly ask him to hand in his badge AND gun). He even pulls the clip out of the gun and lays both on her desk. But just afterwards, he pulls the exact same gun in the warehouse scene and it does contain bullets, but I don't remember seeing him pick up either when leaving the police office.

Did they seriously just overlook this or was some scene in between cut out of the movie? It's all the more bad because you specifically go into the warehouse scene wondering what crazy stunt Jackson will pull to get them out of the dangerous situation and than he just pulls a weapon he isn't supposed to have to solve the crisis.

It is possible that he had his own licensed backup gun and he preferred to have the same kind as his official gun. That wouldn't be a big reach. A lot of cops have their own backup gun and a person like him who doesn't trust anyone would not depend only on one gun.

Hope that clears things for you.
