Did these people even research Detroit for one minute?

Jesus Christ, it was obvious this wasn't Detroit for so many reasons. Like the white woman police captain with the Brooklyn accent.

Fort and Woodward DO NOT INTERSECT!

And really, a dead cop on I-94? An ATF with earrings? Come on!

I don't care if it's make believe, no wonder people are afraid of Detroit.

*beep* *beep*

Hello?....Fort and Woodward do meet...Cadillac Square...Downtown.

reply

I'd argue that they don't really meet, as the connector from woodward to fort is often completely closed or blocked off and woodward is circular at any such place where fort and woodward meet.

also, on the streets it is evident that there is some type of trolley or train grid that is non existent

the downtown shot at the beginning is clearly not Detroit.

funny all around

The Detroit Trolley ran from 1976 to 2003. While the tracks were later removed, they were in place when this film was shot. So, even though the film was shot in Canada, they were technically correct about the trolley tracks.

As a white woman who lived in Detroit, worked there for many, many years and attended Wayne State University; I think the comments from those who say Detroit is so dangerous are quite funny. I guess it's difficult to write with authority about someplace you are too scared to visit, or left at a young age. I love Detroit, and go back to visit often. While I moved for work several years ago, I still have family and friends living and thriving in Detroit, and the Detroit area.

The Zoo is incredible - even though it is in Royal Oak - the Sports are consistently worth watching (ok, not much of a football fan; love Hockey and like B-ball) the Cultural sites would rival the same in any world class city. I won't try to talk anyone out of their preconceived notions about this city. Tickets to events are difficult enough to come by!

haha ya I thought it was filmed in Toronto!
They did a bad job of covering up street signs and the "royal bank of canada" logo! lol

reply

and i just came back from toronto and the rail indentations in the roads are clearly in toronto...why not just say toronto?

reply

Detriot is one of the most dangerous cities in America and its has been for a few years. I am from MI orig. MI is a total *beep*

It's mercy, compassion, and forgiveness I lack; not rationality.

Why do they always do this?Is it just that Detroit doesn't allow filming in their city anymore?I mean the movie Detroit Rock City was all about going to a Kiss concert at Cobo Hall, and they made a phony one up in Canada, along with calling it Detroit as well. The director even snuck into Detroit for a quick 3 minute shoot of the city while the kids were driving the car, without permission.Another movie that was supposed to take place in Detroit, but only had one scene shot there was 4 brothers. So again I ask this,do they ban filming in Detroit,or are people just afraid to film there?Believe it or they have cleaned it up.

They film in Canada instead of Detroit for the same reason they now build cars in Canada instead of Detroit............think money think unions and on and on.................granted healthcare isnt as big an issue in films as in cars (GM was paying 1500 bucks per car towards healthcare for current and past workers.................solution Canada where the gov pays) and granted the dollar isnt as strong vs Canadas as it was 5 years ago.....................its still a hell of alot cheaper to hire a film crewin Canada and shoot there then add the tax incentives given to attract the film industry and PRESTO!! Bollywood 2....................it was only a matter of time it makes sense that if its cheaper to make $20 soccer balls and $20,000 cars with foreign labor somebody would figure it would be cheaper to make 100 millon dollar movies there as well........................ever hear that old saying?? something about buying American??

reply

Only a small percentage of people in the world have been to Detroit, so most people wouldn't notice or care. This is a comedy, not a documentary on Detroit.

reply
