Why was the school bully so scared by the two robbers?

When they pulled up next to them at the stop light, why did he look at them like he knew who they was and didn't wanna fvck with them? He said "I don't know who they are and i don't wanna know".

Thats what i love about these high school girls, i get older they stay the same age.

I just re-watched this with the commentary and I seem to recall Cronenberg saying that the school bully character could see in the two robbers that they were above and beyond the typical local yahoo the bully was used to seeing and dealing with. You can see it in their faces--the younger man is so utterly cold in his gaze at the bully and complete unfazed by the kids' aggressiveness behind the wheel, he just creeps the kid out.

Ah yeah that makes alot of sense, that was a great scene, like you said he could almost sense that those two was evil.

Thanks for the reply.

The bully's weapon was intimidation. When he saw he didn't intimidate them he backed down, sensing they were more than capable of dealing with his small town antics.
