I don't know if I was supposed to feel as happy as I did when I discovered his dad died. I mean I think you were supposed to feel bad because Dorian was just talking about him. I almost cheered because I hated him so much.
shareI'd say that means the movie did its job very well. Dorian was conflicted about his father, and the movie made you see him the same way. I think there are a lot of people who dislike this movie precisely because it IS realistic, and it hits too close to home for them.

He didn't get particularly angry or ban Dorian from coming home because he never really cared about Dorian. It wasn't worth his energy to be upset when he could lavish attention on Dorian's brother.
