I really liked this movie.

I just watched Dorian Blues this morning, and I thought it was pretty good. A lot better than my expectations after reading some reviews of it.

The only thing I didn't like was that I couldn't tell whether it wanted to be mostly drama but kinda a comedy, mostly a comedy but kinda a drama, or right in between the two. It was never really clear.

But I think the plot was pretty interesting and I would definitely watch this movie again. It's nice and light-hearted while also accurately depicting some aspects of realizing that you're gay and accepting yourself, and also learning that some people won't accept you and you just have to live with that.

Hahaha, "it's not pink, it's fuschia." I loved that.

...But I really wanted Nick to be gay. lol

I'm hoping some other people agree with me that this was a good movie. It seems like a lot of people don't like it. :(

I just finished watching it, and I have to admit I was seriously surprised by how good it was. I'm in the habit of picking up gay b-movies from my video store and I did this without any expectations at all. I guess I should do that more often so I'll always be this pleasantly surprised XD

Honestly, I'm shocked that a lot of people here don't like it. It's quirky and the characters are interesting (seriously, his dad is my dad, minus the deadness). It's not epic, it's down to earth while still managing to be kinda surreal. Also, both of the main actors are so cute ;) You weren't the only one who wanted Nick to be gay too. Well, let's settle for bi-curious :P

Can you dig it?

"Well, let's settle for bi-curious"

I can definitely live with that. :D

I liked the movie a lot but I didn't want Nick to be gay as, for me, the cornyness factor in that would have been too much.

I really liked the father's role.

My only criticism is that a couple of elements: the AIDS conversation, and the Dor/Ben relationahsip, could have been dealt with in slightly more depth although that might have changed the comedy-drama balance too much.

This is almost up there with The Edge of Seventeen for me.

This is a surprise rental. Better than I expected. The credit goes to the director and his screenplay. Very well written and directed. Mr. Coco is a revealation.

Watched it twice, will watch it again.

I love the movie!, I watched a while ago and it's awesome!

has many funny parts and I wasn't expecting that, also is very realistic and cute.

It's definetly a must see in the gay movies list.

I agree - for being entertaining and amusing this movie takes some beating.

I'm one of the producers of Dorian Blues, and just wanted to say thanks for these kind and thoughtful posts. At the Q&A after our screening (in the legendary Castro Theatre!) at San Francisco Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, a woman in the audience asked, "When DID you meet my family?" Credit goes to writer/director Tennyson Bardwell for his skillful observation and sensitive touch. Working with him was a great pleasure. Your feedback is much appreciated!
