Are there any GOOD movies based on a video game?

After seeing BooldRayne and DOA: Dead or Alive recently, I've been wondering if there are any good movies that are based on video games, and I just can't think of a single one. Are there any that exist?

I've seen the following:

Super Mario Brothers
Street Fighter
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
Pokemon: The Movie 2000
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
House of the Dead
BloodRayne
DOA: Dead or Alive
Silent Hill
Resident Evil
Resident Evil: Extinction
Doom

Just make sure you don't recommend any of those, because I didn't like any of them.

I thought that the first Tomb Raider was pretty good. I give Angelina Jolie her props. She played one hell of a Lara Croft.

I loved Silent Hill and Mortal Kombat. They're still kind of 'B' movies, but well done.

I was astonished at how good Silent Hill was.

I say Silent Hill, Resident Evil 1&2, and Mortal Kombat. I heard that Halo Legends is pretty good too. I don't see many good upcoming ones though. I hope that new Mortal Kombat is tight though.

you appear to have already seen (and disliked) all the movies that are based on games.

on the whole movie makers only seem to make movies based on lightweight games.
while leaving games that already have good scripts (GTA mass Effect0 alone.

I liked Resident Evil and Dead or Alive best out of all the video games I seen

Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy Spirits Within are watchable but nothing special

the worst I have seen are Streetfighter, Mortal Kombat and Tekken totally sh** films

try Final Fantasy Advent Children - thats quite a cool film if you like FF7

A good movie?

That depends on the genre, the intention of the film and on some circumstances, your mood.

I consider Super Mario Brothers, Dead or Alive, Resident Evil and The Spirits Within to be good anywhere between OK and good movies.

Great movies however, that to me would be a score of 8 to 10, there is just not a single one.

Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie is one of the best efforts if you can stand the two dimensional characters.

A couple that I've seen that you didn't mention are:

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale
Dungeons and Dragons
Double Dragon

One that I would love to be seen made into a movie though would be Vagrant Story. If it is done right could be a great movie. They'd probably have to change the name because Vagrant Story isn't really an appealing title. Maybe something along the line of Riskbreaker or Bloodsin beings those titles are still incorporated to part of the game.

Another video game I'm surprised they never tried to make a movie out of was Legend of Zelda or one of it's spin-offs.

I like In the Name of the King though I don't think it has that much of a connection to the game. It's a ridiculous fantasy film and I like those. Also Burt Reynolds is awesome as you can tell how much he hates being in it.

Mortal Kombat is as good as a video game movie can get.

I really dont think there has been any really great movies based on games. Well Tombraider did make it to be great both as a game and as a movie.

Mortal kombat.. Well the ones so far really stink. Though with the one being released in 2013 looks promising. The old ones screams B-movie to high heaven.

I think you're just being a dumbass troll.

Some of those movie you mentioned are actually pretty good.
Namely Mortal Kombat and I personally liked MK2 even though so many people seem to hate the 2nd movie.

The silent Hill movie was great in the sense that it managed to capture the horror and feel of the games.

Some of the RE movies are good. I liked Afterlife and Apocalypse.

They're all pretty good movies. Dunno why you say they're not good movies.

You didn't mention Prince of Persia, but that was also a pretty good movie as well.

I'm guessing you're not counting animes/CGI movies but the Final Fantasy AC and SF the movie are pretty good too.

I thought Mortal Kombat was good right up until Shang Tsung kidnapped Sonya. Then it seemed like a rush to get to the end. It could've done with another hour (yes, really! Another hour of a B-movie!).

I was pretty surprised by how much I liked Prince Of Persia. It was difficult to understand in places and it was very Pirates Of The Caribbean-influenced (not that that's a bad thing) but, as much as I tried telling myself not to like it because Jake Gyllenhal isn't Middle Eastern and they gave the prince a name, it was actually quite good.

Disliked every other movie on the list, though I haven't seen all of them.
