B-movies... Not a good business?

Budget $21,000,000
I was just wandering how can investors spend so much in these types of b-movies that clearly wont make as nearly as the cost.

Any thoughts?

I don't think they were depending on the story to earn back their millions.

B-movies can be a good business, as many tend to become popular cult classics.

I agree, some B-movies can become cult movies and turn up the investment over time, when they have a good theme or story...

I just wonder it they really think they're gonna earn back their investment with these types of b-ridiculous fighting, hot babes, bad acting, bad special FX-movies.

I mean if I had 20mil to spend on a movie, I surly would try to make the best 'serious, interesting-themed' movie... aiming for a cult-movie.

The movie definitely didn't perform as well as they had hoped. It did quite decently in Australia and the UK - mainly due to Holly Valance's brief music career - but it flopped completely in the US.

Most of these movies make more in the backend i.e. DVD sales and rentals. Furthermore, a lot of these type of movies have a much higher gross overseas. That's why a lot of movies seem "dumbed down," they try to reach that least common denominator that will have a broader global appeal.
