No 57 on The Times' Top 100 Films of the Noughties

My girlfriend and I are watching through a list of the top 100 films of the last decade (from The Times newspaper) and this was at number 57.

First off, its not our list we're just watching through it to check out some films we wouldn't otherwise see and re-watch some classics from the decade. I wouldn't put too much weight on the order they have the films in!

Anyway...

I thought this was a pretty good film. The first Italian film that was on the list was Gomorrah which, as a massive fan of crime and gangster films, I was pretty disappointed in. It just seemed very unfocused with no strong narrative that ran through the film. This is the second and I enjoyed it a good bit more. About an hour into it and I wasn't really sure where the film was going as next to nothing had happened but as a study of Toni Servillo's character it was interesting. Not sure I buy why Sofia liked him - he was kind of an arse - but I suppose he redeemed himself by the end.

We are scoring the films as we go along to give our take on the list. If you're interested, you can keep up to date with our progress (and see the The Times' full list) on our blog at:
