Question about the barmaid

I may be mistaken but didn't I see Titta in the shopping mall, peering down at the barmaid who was greeting the bald guy who looked down her blouse near the start of the film?

This is the only scene I don't understand. I'd be grateful if someone could enlighten me.

He doesn't like showing emotion, but he likes her, or is just lonely and she's his chance. SO he sees her with an older man who isn't her equal in looks and it gives him hope for himself.

As I recall, this scene occurs after he tries to give her the car and she turns it down and they have a falling-out. He then sees her with the other guy, returns to the hotel, hears someone (possibly the barmaid and the bald guy) havng sex, gets very upset and shoots up heroin on the 'wrong' day of the week for the first time in 20 years. It's about jealousy, not hope, and it's to show that he is letting things get to him, for the first time in decades.

I used to want to change the world. Now I just want to leave the room with a little dignity.

The barmaid was a bit of an enigma. Did she generally care about Titta or was she a gold digger? Her character sends mixed messages throughout the film.

Like the previous poster stated, Titta fell in love and started feeling emotions again like jealousy and rejection. Hence the off routine drug use. She then came to see him and he shared all of his secrets with her. He was truly in love, but was she? He believed it.
