Why didn't they just use grenades?
The corrupt cops wanted everyone in the precinct dead anyway, right? They could have just used grenade launchers and annihilate everyone inside.

They probably did not want to draw attention. All their guns even had silencers on.
Probably could of used grenades after the bus exploded, but they'd still have to check out the building for bodies to make sure they got everyone. Maybe going in with guns was more accurate...

What I want to know is why the idiot cops didn't just rush the building in force to begin with? Instead of simutaneously charging one or two entrances with everything they had, they kept sending a couple of cops to an entrance just to have them get killed or pushed back. Oh yea... and who was the brilliant cop that didn't realize they had freakin tear gas until the final 20 minutes of the movie?!?!
For having all the appearances and equipment of a SWAT team, they sure didn't seem very competent. I realize the movie would have been over pretty quickly had they used intelligent tactics, so I can accept it.
Nunyerbiz are you a tactical specialist or do you have any experience at all in that field. I don't think so, your opinion is based on what?? On your movie experience?

Hmmm... let's see.
The tactics that the cops used resulted in:
A dozen or more of their guys getting killed. What did they get in return? NOTHING! The only people they got were the people trying to ESCAPE who were already outside the precinct. They used the same scattershot assault tactics on multiple occasions and everytime it resulted in their side TAKING ALL THE CASUALTIES!
I don't have to be freakin Napoleon to figure out that the tactics they used sucked. My opinion is based on the 'idiot cop bodycount' in the movie.

You don't need no tactical experience to understand they are using tactics which might as well have been invented by a 5-year-old, and are completely useless!
I KNOW - in my experience - if you are going to take a building - which occupies maybe 3 or 4 people who knows how to even handle a weapon, in addition to some civilians who'll just be in the way for the ones who know how to fight - , that 12 (+) men are more than sufficient.. in addition, when they're as well-equipped as they are in this movie (bodyarmour, nightvision, laser-sights, tactical lights, SMGs, and probably the BEST assault-rifles in the world etc etc), there wouldn't be much of a struggle,,.. ANY team who enters a building with hostile intent would use both flash-bangs and fragmentation grenades (every police force this well-equipped, AT LEAST has got to have flash-bangs in their inventory) to aid their purpose (killing everyone)...
The same goes for tear gas..
IMO, this movie lacked all sense of reality, and although it was filled with action, it didn't entertain me.. It sucked!
My opinion is based on my own experience, common sense, and analysis of dozens of "hard-entry" excersises we conducted when I was in the Armed Forces..
I completely agree with denveren. They have nightvision but they even don't mind to turn the street lights off. Movie should be taken in a much darker environment, this would also helps the director to use create some claustrophobic scenes. They are intended to kill everyone but they hesitate to enter the building with all sorts of grenades. If they are trying to execute an assault they should be more silent and invisible. Their buses are visible everywhere. However the idea is interesting but it is not original either. (5 out of 10 for some acting performances)

shareWell that's the main flaw in remaking this with cops instead of criminals. When some gangbangers can't figure out how to get inside a fortified building, that's believable, when a highly trained SWAT Team can't, that's unbelievable and that's the basic mistake they made with this movie.
Besides, you just need to read a simple book on SWAT Teams or watch training footage to get a good idea of how it should go on. Surprise, diversion, overwhelming force, speed.
Simple. If the used grenades laucnhers of rpg's, then we don't have a movie of 110 minutes but of 10 minutes. The fight would be over soon. It is a an action movie! Nothing realistic. Look at the damn 'snipers' That could never be a sniper.
shareOkay, i might be wrong on this, but i always thought that the 'corrupt cops' were just regular cops from the 'Organised Crime' department,who could of easily got their hands on SWAT gear and weapons from the armory, because their tactics on storming the building were pretty poor, compared with other SWAT involved movies.

1. They dont guarentee a confirmed kill
2. The body identification would be more difficult. ( how will they confirm Bishop is dead if his unrecognisable)
3. It will be more difficult to clear up grnade scrapnel in keeping with the coverup
Flash bangs to my understanding can be easily retrieved , Frag nades can be found by forensics looking for the reason 3 police officers, Bishop etc were slain. When Police issue frag nade were involved suspicion is increased.
There was nothing wrong with the tactics the police used,
It was imperitive that none of his me were injured (dead cops raise alot of questions)
Hell if i were Jake i would have set the Top Storey alight ( Smoke Signal) Fire Department probably isnt involved,
and made a strong hold in the basement till the fire Dep arrived.

You got to remember the goal wasn't just to eliminate these guys but make it look like Bishop's people were the ones doing it. If they took these guys out efficiently using the best of military tactics then it would be pretty obvious that Bishop's men didn't do the killings.
