I hate this show!

I WAS a Reeves and Mortimer fan, back in the day with Big Night Out, the genius that was The Smell Of Reeves and Mortimer, and the early series of Shooting Stars. But then they got rich and stopped making anything good.

Catterick in my opinon was very poor. Lots of crappy innuendo gags, poor characters (I only liked the cop but that got old real quick) and weak surreal humor: e.g. The clooney gag was funny when Carl was angry in the car and then got out and kicked the tree, hilarious, but then it went on too long; Ian going on about his wife being cold, again milked for to long; The songs just jarred, and it was so obvious that Reece was his son. A mess.

I tried to watch it all, but after 4 episodes of RARE laughs I gave up.

I think Vic and Bob have lost it, I'm sticking with the Mighty Boosh. Good surreal humor.

Each to their own.

I have to say I thought Catterick is among their best work. It doesn't get the credit it deserves. It show that Vic and Bob are comedy kings, having done comedy shows across the spectrum and succeding almost each and every time. This sheer variety is something no other comedian has done. They are the pioneers of modern comedy and for that alone this show should be loved.

If you think the Mighty Boosh is good...then God help you

reply

Hey, I like them both! What's your problem with The Boosh?

Mom, I'm not a lawyer.

reply

Maybe if it wasn't lacking in humour or wit then it'd be reasonable.

Going by your user ID, you're lacking a bit in taste yourself.

reply

I love this show. Hand.

reply

Can I use that word?

Christ, all that slagging off, then you give the Mighty Boosh as your example of good (allegedly surreal) comedy!?

Mighty Boosh is utter drivel!

reply

"Can I use that word? "

If you like.

Can't you love both? I do.

I liked it more as it went along. Still their weakest work though I think. The first series of the Boosh is great. 2nd was a bit worse though, and the 3rd was ever worse, but still okay.

I am an genius

I have to agree, the second was weaker, but had great moments, and the third was a massive camden love in featuring tons of people that can't act, but are considered cool by some, thankfully not all. Why have the horrors in there? Idiocy.

Anyway, Catterick was absolutely outstanding, although if I'm honest, it probably needs repeat viewing to get the best of it. I was really upset it didn't get a terrestrial outing, or a second series. I loved bob as teh straight man too, he always deserved a starring role, he's actually a great actor.

i liked it when i first saw it and found the general style and tone of the show to be really refreshing, and the more heartfelt dramatic stuff to be exceptionally well-done. but on reviewing it's really not good. it goes on far too long (its essentially a three-hour movie) and consequently every character gets completely gets run into the ground, and most of them were either annoying (tess, roy oates) or non-entities (ian, TONY) in the first place. and so many jokes are so painfully strained in that horribly uncomfortable little britain-esque (inedible/indelible, mistaking a golf for a range rover, etc etc) way

reply

I'm the opposite. I usually can't stand Reeves and Mortimer as they act like stupid school boys, but when they take on a story it can be funny. Bob Mortimer was good with Angelos Epithemiou and this show made me laugh too.
