New (CG) Batman animated series news...

Posted at Rob Allstetter's Comics Continuum. We've already known some of this, but there are a couple of new nuggets of information:

The next Batman animated series to follow Batman: The Brave and the Bold on Cartoon Network will feature computer-generated animation, The Continuum has learned.

The series will become a companion to Green Lantern: The Animated Series -- also CG-animated -- as part of Cartoon Network's DC Nation programming initiative.

It is unclear if the Batman and Green Lantern series will take place in the same universe.

At last summer's Comic-Con International, it was announced that James Tucker, the producer of The Brave and the Bold, was developing the new series. However, The Continuum has learned that Glen Murakami is producing the CG Batman show.

Murakami has a long history with Batman and DC Comics characters. He began his career at Warner Bros. Animation in August 1991 as a character designer and storyboard artist on Batman: The Animated Series and was a producer on Superman, Batman Beyond, Justice League and Teen Titans. He most recently was a producer on the Ben 10 franchise.

An official announcement on the new series could come as early as next month's Comic-Con International.

'Beware the Batman'. It's OK. I think it has improved since it started.

I find that each iteration of DC (and Marvel) character series is aimed at a specific segment of the market, some at the pre-teen (or families), and others to the more adult (maturely themed) population.

I don't regard any of the series as mutually exclusive, but only that the scripting and character design are targeted at appealing to their demographic audience. Certainly I like the more mature themes, but the others (Brave and the Bold) aren't bad either.
