One of the Best English Dubs Yet....

I think Bandai and ADV are getting really good at this. For the first time, I actually found the dub better after I finished the entire series, than the Japanese version.

Any other opinions or interpretations?

I agree; they did a really good job with the dub. Sasshi and Arumi both sounded like kids, which is a welcome change from all the forty-year-old voice in a fifteen-year-old's body FMA types out there. And as an added bonus, they can both actually act.

In my opinion, FLCL still holds the title of best dub, though. They could have COMPLETELY ruined the great characters with bad voice overs/writing, but they went above and beyond with both of these categories.

And both of these animes are from GAINAX. Huh.

reply

Yeah, I listened to the audio commentary a few days ago...Jessica Boone (Arumi) is actually a theatre major in college.

I rather enjoyed the Southern American accents they used. For me it gave the show a unique flavor that set it apart from most other animes. (I for one like my anime or any forigen language film dubbed rather than subtitled.) Also if the anime CHEEKY ANGEL were to ever be released here in the U.S. (the manga is now available,) Luci Christen is the person I'd want to do the voice of the main character Megumi Amatsuka. And I really love Jessica Boone, as well.

I appreciate the accents also.
Since the kids ARE from Osaka, which is known to have a heavy accent akin to that of southern US, it's good for them to translate that over.
