Actors don't sinc-up with the ages of the characters

Shirley MacLaine does not look old enough to have been a middle aged woman with a grown daughter 40 years beforehand.

Kevin Costner does not look old enough to have been a college kid 39 years earlier.

Jennifer Aniston looks a lot older than the actress playing her younger sister-unless their mom died during that childbirth?

Oh, and Jennifer's character looked to nutsy to be conducting herself like that at 40 years old.

Shame they didn't do this movie 10 years earlier (29 year old woman and say a 25 year old younger sister, etc.)

With some recasting the story would have made more sense.

I agree completely. This was terribly miscast!

The movie was set in 1997. Sarah makes a phone call at the airport and mentions that she graduated in 82 and Beau Burroughs graduated in 59. Later she mentions being born in 64 That would make Sara's character about 32-33 and Beau's character 55ish. 39 years ago was when he had the accident leaving him unable to father children, not when Sara was conceived. Shirley easily could be 75 in the movie, so, it does work if you know it's set in 97.

Exactly.

My brother and sister are 9 & 10 yrs older than me, as Jennifer is to Mena.

Jennifer Aniston looked a couple decades older than Mena Suvari, playing her sister. In the movie, they're supposed to be 5 years apart - laughable.
