Throw this away and watch the original.

I feel bad for young people that have only seen this version because this is not a good movie. I was going through the TV channels the other night and saw the scene where the evil warden is telling Crewe to throw the game. The dialog was so bad and over the top and the warden was just so EVIL it was just absurd. The big game wasn't good either and so many moments in the game didn't even have crowd noise. I suppose this was done so you could hear that lousy dialog. To make things worse Rob Shnieder makes terrible jokes during the game and the very end of the movie has some lame joke in the back of a limo involving Tracy Morgan that was just painful. Please see the original, it's great and Burt Reynolds is completely believable as a former NFL star. Can anybody really buy Adam Sandler as a former NFL star? Are our standards just so low now that this crappy remake is considered a good movie?

I admire Adam Sandler to have to courage to remake this 70's Classic. If he's going to remake any Burt Reynolds movie I would rather it be this than Deliverance. I actually would love to see Cannonball Run remade.
I loved this movie as a kid and now it has new life. The best part is now people can go back and see the original to compare and talk about which they like better.

Yeah, say what you will about Sandler and his style of comedy but I think this movie has some real heart and some genuinely funny moments(I really loved all the bits with Engleheart after they've switched his steroids for estrogen lol). AND, that's coming from a person who prefers Mel Brooks, Monty Python and the Three Stooges when it comes to comedy.

**edit**Forgot to say, I wouldn't want Cannonball Run to be remade so much as a 'next generation' kind of thing to kick start the franchise for the modern era. It could be the modern comedy equivalent of the Fast&Furious films if done right.

What choice do I have? It is as if you have grabbed me by the base of my snarglies!

I'm gonna take a guess that you never saw the original 'Longest yard." Just a hunch.

I seriously doubt that kids do this. Probably the only ones that would (teenagers/early-20s) are seriously into movies, in which case they'd quickly conclude that the remake was garbage. Most remakes and reboots over the past 30 years are just cheap money grabs leeching off the creativity of their predecessors. This junk is no exception. It doesn't help The Longest Yard '05 that it was made when the wretched quick-edit style of Tony Scott was still in vogue.

This remake was putrid. It is pointless to try to make a remake of this type of 70s movie since political correctness has sterilized the majority of comedies for 20 or more years. Just like you can never remake Blazing Saddles.

I saw this version before the original and thought this version was much better.

Agreed. This remake is nothing but garbage from a garbage actor who isn't funny at all.
This doesn't hold a candle at all to the Reynolds original. Heck, the candle isn't even in the same room.

What really made the humor of the original stand out even more was the subtlety of it. It wasn't "in your face" or as obvious as it is in this one.
It was much more real and gritty. This one was just a fantasy and much more unreal.
Plus, Adam Sandler just plain sucks. He is such a loser compared to Reynolds and that is fact and not opinion.

It really depends on your walk of life. I think the original is boring. I appreciate it for what it is. But that movie didn't capture me like the remake. Being able to put Sandlers comedy into a more mature film worked wonders. Also that scene in the library is amazing because it speaks volumes to me. Overall the film couldn't be better. One of Sandlers best films next to Reign Over Me.

Have to disagree, broh. I *almost* passed on this one, as I typically don't care for remakes/reboots. And then I got wind of the supporting cast...wrestlers, MMA fighter, Michael Ivrin, etc. And understanding how much respect Sandler has for Burt Reynolds, I went ahead and gave it a shot, and was pleasantly surprised at how much I like this movie. Granted, it's hard to take Sandler seriously as a ex-pro QB, but everything else in this movie made suspension of such disbelief rather easy and enjoyable.
