References to Duel (1971/I)

"Throttle" AKA "No Way Up" has several references to Spielberg's Duel:
- The black car is very similar to Duel's truck (massive, black windows, you can't see the driver, etc.)
- Early in the movie we can see somebody who looks just like Dennis Weaver in a red car driving down the parking
- The main character's name is Tom Weaver... same last name as Duel's main actor

I love such references (which are certainly not coincidences) and this movie is really enjoyable if you liked Duel.

If you found more references to Duel, please share...

There is a pickup truck in the garage in some scenes that is from "GREBLIEPS PAINTING." Greblieps is Spielberg spelled backwards.

Wow, this movie sounds great... I liked it much better, the FIRST time I saw it, when it was called "Duel."

You: No, it's totally different! "Duel" was outdoors, this one is INSIDE!!
Me: Shut up.

Anyone remember KILLDOZER?

It's like the Neo-Con Death Cult now inhabiting the White House. It's roots go back farther than you think.

I don't know if I'd call it a reference, but I'd at least call it an homage:

The fact that until right near the end, we see the truck driver's boots but not his face or other identifying features. That's all that the Dennis Weaver character saw of the semi driver in "Duel": his boots.

I wouldn't say the movie is horrible, but definetly copies "Duel" and "Jeepers Creepers" (which publicly admitted to copying "Duel"). But it's alright seeing for free. Definately watch movires like "Joy Ride" instead.

Adrian Paul's character's last name is Matheson, after Richard Matheson, screenwriter of Duel. And I could be reaching on this one, but the cafe owner in Duel is played by veteran TV actor Eddie Firestone, who shares his first name with this movie's security guard.
