Enjoyed the film but something tainted it for me (Possible Spoilers)

I rarely posted on IMDb even though I use it several times a day but there was something I needed to say. I'm a big kid at heart and I still enjoy cartoon films but being a film geek there was something I felt was in really poor taste. In the climax young Penny is almost killed by a burning helicopter. The first thing I thought of was the tragic accident that ended the life of Vic Morrow and the two young actors held was carrying at the time.

Now I don't know about anyone else but I really thought this was in the terrible taste and shouldn't have featured. It wouldn't have done any harm to the film if this had been cut.

Anyone else had any thoughts on this?

I see your point. But do feel compelled to play devil's advocate here and point out that if Hollywood had to avoid plot-devices that echoed reality there wouldn't be any peril they could write about. For example, any film where a woman shoots a man would be linked to the tragic death of Phil Hartman. Any film where a woman disappears from a yacht (Natalie Wood). Not to mention non-actor related accidental deaths/murders etc.

I don't know that Disney deliberately choose the helicopter crash plot-device to remind people of Vic Morrow. I doubt it. I doubt actually that many of the target audience of this movie would know who Vic Morrow was, or watched the Twilight Zone movie. Which is really a shame.

But I agree that it's a sad reminder of a very tragic incident.

I think you're over-sensitive. Those are my thoughts on this.

It was not a burning helicopter, the sound stage had torches that was knocked over by the replacement Bolt, that was not as brave as the real one. Thankfully the real Bolt showed up, but it seems to me that I have seen this movie more times then you did, but this is where the peril comes from that this movie is rated PG for. The movie is rated PG for some mild action and peril, which I would think the action would mean towards the beginnng of the movie.

Yes, I know, digging up dead posts but SERIOUSLY. When you posted this, the accident that killed Vic Morrow, Myca Dinh Le and Renee Shin-Yi Chen (which, btw, if their deaths were SUCH A TRAGEDY how come so many people fail to actually bother to remember and post their names?) was over 30 years old. Eventually, plot points have to become available again. It is BY FAR no longer 'too soon'.

I think that was the movie's point. The people who made TV didn't care about the dog. Penny saw that he was getting upset about her safety, but to them it just made a better show. They didn't care about the dog's disappearance once they had gotten a replacement. They didn't care for Penny, either, as shown by the casual safety standards. I think we were supposed to be reminded of real-life events.
