Who Wants a 3rd Series . . . .

The title of the original "Who Wants a 3rd Series" thread (started, below this one, in May 2006) has gone - but that doesn't change the fact that a lot of people DO WANT ONE!!!!!!

Why, has it finished?

Why has it finished?

The only information we have was supplied a while ago, on the other "who wants a 3rd series" thread, when the London BBC said to another poster:

Thank you for your e-mail regarding '55 Degrees North'.

I understand that you would like to know if the programme will be returning to
BBC ONE.

I must advise you that the programme has not been recommissioned for a third
series. We are incredibly proud of '55 Degrees North' and it's been fantastic
to have had the opportunity to create a bright, sparky and entertaining show
from Newcastle.

However, after two series it felt right to bring the series to a natural end.

Your interest in the BBC is appreciated, thank you for taking the time to
contact us.

It was just great to have a series set outside of London, Manchester or Glasgow. There are some others, but not many.

Newcastle is such an exciting and photogenic (spectacular) City - it should be routinely used for this sort of programme . . . instead of . . well . . . almost never!!

All we get is endless Cockney-based (yawn) drivel. Sometimes they are good programmes, but are let down by their predictable Cockney settings!

Bring back 55 Degrees North and Spender and the like!!

"fingers" and "the counting of on one hand" come to mind!

Yes definitely. I think the show could easily run for at least 1 more series. I would love to see these characters again.

And yes it was nice to see another show set in Newcastle for a change. Even though people who live near there like myself know that parts were actually filmed in North Shields, South Shields and Sunderland. :-)

But yeah bring it back (I've just re watched my DVD's of series 1 and 2 and it gets better and better).

It will not happen.

The "UK Media" is based in London and is obsessed with filming and producing programmes in London and the South East of England.

END of story . . . the rest of us can just go . . . . . . . as far as they are concerned.
