i found myself chuckling at some bits but that was it. this is an average stand-up routine, but nothing like the genius of peter kay or the improvisation of eddie izzard

did u notice thathis style is differnet to eddie lizzard? he is one very funny guy and his range is quite unique. I would like to see peter kay pull off david brent

reply

i'm not comparing the style of comedy because they're all blatantly different but i'm comparing the whole thing in general and this just wasn't up to the standard of peter and eddie EVEN IF THE COMEDY IS DIFFERENT!

I'd like to see Peter Kay be funny.
I have many times watched 'Pheonix Nights' or his standup and just completly failed to see the humour. It is just NOT FUNNY.

The comedy in Phoenix Nights is often very local to Bolton as most of the cast are from Bolton. But i disagree that its not funny, Some of the scenes get more hilarious with every watch! And Kay's standup makes me laugh at the same points every time i see it. Which is in my view the secret to great comedy.
Gervais is good at stand-up but not in Kay's league

Peter Kay is very funny- but I think Gervais is funnier because Peter Kay seems to have run out of jokes now- I have seen him use the same ones in different shows and programmes. And it is starting to get boring. I also don't think that Max and Paddy's road to nowhere was all that funny either- noy as good as phoenix nights.

oh, you would be happy with 2 8ths instead of a quarter? Thats awfully big of you!

ive heard enough, Peter Kay is an overweight representative for a northern monkey. Gervais is leagues ahead, and too even mention the fairy IZZARD makes me question your sanity! P.S I love Pat Butcher x

reply

erm n-wands no offence, but what would you know if you love Pat Butcher?
haha! by the way i think Peter Kaye is funnier for older people..whereas Ricky is funny to almost everyone...that can take a joke and arent easily offended!
haha

Peter Kays jokes were done on a show i remeber called the sunday show, the thing is, it wasn't him doing the jokes, it was some women ive never heard of, i know this because we found an old beta-max tape with the sunday show on it, n she was doing loads of peter kays jokes, in 1983 i think it was!!!!! Atleast Ricky is original, he's the funniest person i've known of!! hes a comic genius, he just keeps doing new material, as for peter kay, 3 of the shows ive seen, all contain the same material!!! never happens with gervias! he just keeps on realing out new original comedy!

two words guys : lee evans. the god of stand up.

Well now, its all speculation and opinion but to me Ricky Gervais' deliverance and timing are his main assets. Obviously his material isnt as random or unique as some other comedians (lets say Eddie Izzard here, for his random, improvisational style) but the way he picks up on these everyday things and the timing of how he says certain lines...pure gold.
Animals is much, much funnier than Politics - the more you watch it the better it seems to get - and Peter Kay doesnt even get a mention from me.well, a small one - thats all he deserves. No where near as good as Ricky Gervais.

Eddie Izzard is a legend too.

Mr E Viewer has got it pretty much spot-on with his Ricky Gervais observations!
His timing is perfect and anunctiations are what make him hilarious - i love anything thats hes done!!

But i also enjoyed Peter Kay live, his jokes aren't as clever and he isn't as witty but he genuinely seems like he's having a ball on stage - despite the fact that he's delivered exactly the same line for the 150th time - now that takes some skill!

Why can't we all just love them both, drink some camomile tea and practice some tree hugging!!!!!

reply

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwhat? this is stand up at its veryyyyyy best i love gervais

aaarrgh, someone else who uses that particular men behaving badly quote!

at last, someone who remembers it lol.

as for peter kay, does no one else find it odd that he went all quiet when he fell out with his mate? the one that played ray von in phoenix nights (also acted in peep show). name escapes me, googling means i would lose my page here.

apparently, they wrote it together (whether 50/50, not sure) and peter kay took all the glory. even released it as peter kays phoenix nights. so the real genius *beep* him off, left him a bit stranded for material.

his autobiography is kind of funny, but it's mostly his stand up material as well, or stuff he's said on parky and other chat shows.

it's just a ride
