I ADORE this film, except...

I absolutely loved the artistry of this film. The only thing that always bothers me when I watch it is the girl that was cast as young Pumpkin. She looks NOTHING like the adult Pumpkin. She almost looks like she has native american blood in her. I know she's really American. The casting of young Chiyo and adult Chiyo was flawless. But when the movie switches with the two Pumpkins, it ALWAYS just irks me when I see that drastic change.

I attributed it to her growing up. If you look at pictures of my daughter when she was 4 she looks really different at 15. It didn't bother me that they weren't spot on with Pumpkin.

Tell Japanese people the casting was flawless. Lol. They would disagree.
I get what you're saying. The adult pumpkin has a very round face, but how often do children cast in films look like the parents or child actors looking like their adult versions. Hardly ever

It's only because you let it bother you. How many movies and tv shows have you watched where parents and children, or siblings, hell twins even, don't look at all like they're from the same family?

Same thing. It's called "suspension of disbelief".
