THIS DOESN'T LOOKS LIKE A QUATERMAINMOVIE

I loved the character, especially of course Richard Chamberlain's Quatermain. HIGH ADVENTURE (with Quatermain's Grandson) was not that good, but even this movie had its funny Quatermain scences.
Than came LXG with Connery playing the man that Africa won't let die AND NOW PATRICK SWAYZY.
Has anybody seen the trailer? It looks boring without any of the humor which was the only thing keeping this series alive.

But the book was never intended as a comedy, so I don't know why you are upset that this one seems to lack funny bits. The story is about the trek and the adventure, not the comedy. There are funny parts in this one, but it is an adventure story above all. Also, I think Swayze does a good job in this one.

It may be a good movie - my problem is that i grew up with the Chamberlain movies and High Adventure (year 2001) was also one of those films which take themselves so seriously that they are funny as hell.

I hope I'm able to see the Swayze-flick soon.

I THINK AFTER PEOPLE SAW THE ONE WITH RICHARD CHAMBERLAIN AND SHARON STONE,THEY THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE FUNNY TOO.

I'll agree that Patrick Swayzy's a bit stiff, but he's worlds better than Chamberlain. I remember renting the Chamberlain video a few years back and stopping it 3/4's of the way through because it was so awefull. Chamberlain couldn't act his way out of a wet rice paper bag.

Go and read the Quatermain novels by H. Rider Haggard first before you make a statement like this again and you'll find out that this movie is a lot closer to the spirit of the novels than the lacklustre Chamberlain movies.

BTW, who in your opinion would be a perfect Quatermain ? I don't remember the details, but I think he was no spring chicken in the novels.
I guess you'd have to go for true British charm, so a slightly younger than nowadays Michael Caine would fit — he did appear in many adventure movies. But then, when did Michael Caine was anything but great ??? :)

In the book, I think that Allan Quatermain was about 50-55 years old... So since Swayze is about that age, he's alright as Quatermain...
But I agree on the fact that the movies with Chamberlain were unwatchable craps, with huge rips-off from Indiana Jones!

Forget Chamberlain people this is a whole new movie, and Swayze is even better, more talented and charismatic, a true actor !!
