How did Dan end up with Serena?

I'm rewatching for the millionth time and it really doesnt make any sense. Season 1, fine. Quiet guy "in love" with the aspirational it girl that he doesn't really know, he just watches infatuated from afar.

As he got older and grew more confident, and came into his own, he and Serena had NOTHING in common. Watching season 5 while he was with Blair made it so much more apparent. Dan and Blair were a perfect match on every level. With Serena it was just physical and I believe his love for Blair was a much more mature love and his feelings for Serena were purely fumes of nostalgia. Honestly, it would have made more sense for him to end up with freaking Georgina.

Serena should have ended up with Nate. Can't even imagine what Serena and Dan talk about these days.

I just pretend season 6 doesn't exist and the show ended with Dan and Blair walking off after the Met steps.

Agreed about Dan and Serena. They were a high school puppy love romance. And the only thing they have in common is a brother that the show conveniently forgot about.

Like the other poster, I pretend the series finale was Dan putting the tiara on Blair's head. They were the perfect match. The show reduced Blair to a snobby cartoon villain so she could be with Chuck and Dan back to the spineless admirer so he could be with Serena. It's sad the lengths they'll go to appease ships. Serena and Nate or Serena and carter would've made more sense. Dan and Blair are intellectuals. Serena only wanted Dan because he fed into her nonsense about wanting to be a better person and he worshipped her. They have nothing in common other than sex same as Chuck and Blair. Serena needs someone who is also flighty and just want so wander. I think all of the couples will be divorced in a year lol.

See, I'm conflicted there because whilst I am a huge Chair fan, I did find myself loving Dan and Blair a lot more than I thought I would. I wish they had dated longer than a few episodes before she went back to Chuck.

Dan and Serena were a NO NO NO for me the minute it was revealed their parents had a 20 year history, and a frickin son. Serena belonged with Nate. Dan should have either ended up with Blair or Vanessa.

Yeah Dan and Serena ran their course long ago. Dan wanted to save her but that shouldn't be the basis of a relationship and Serena wanted to be adored. They never explained why Serena was so uninterested in Nate. He pined for her and she just didn't care.

Same here!! I'm a Chair fan and believe they should have been endgame but I really loved Dair!! I feel a bit cheated. I also would have loved a full season of them being in a relationship.

Serena definitely belonged with Nate. Even Blair herself said Nate and Serena were "mythic". Dan and Serena were adorable season 1 but that's where it ended for me.

Though I do like chuck and Blair. I appreciate how you note that Dan and Blair are intellectuals. I think Blair's intellect gets lost in her snobbery/bitchiness but I can remember many points where she showcased her knowledge not just in her vocabulary choices but also historical references etc.

I can't really remember when her and Chuck talked about anything other than plotting against others or making plans to eff each other later

Serena and Nate or Serena and carter would've made more sense.

I'm on a second rewatch and I absolutely love this idea. I never thought about it on first watch as I always knew Serena & Dan would be endgame.

Anyway, I now notice that Carter lets her be who she is but at the same time, calls her on her crap and stands up to her. I think they would be perfect.

Blair had a better sex life with Chuck than she did with Dan and Chair had stronger romantic feelings for each other than Dair had.

Chuck also was a multi-billionaire.

Dan had a better sex life with Serena than he did with Blair and Derena had stronger romantic feelings for each other than Dair had.

Serena also was a multi-billionaire (in terms of being an heiress).

Serena/Nate was much like Dan/Vanessa.

In addition, Dan ultimately wanted to become the Monarch of Manhattan and create a royal family. I like to consider that Nate/Jenny were eventually going to marry.

I love you! Seriously, that is what I have been saying too. He actually likes the real Serena. I mean, think about it. Dan loved Serena when he did not even know who she was yet when he got to know her, he did not like what he saw. She was just a fantasy. Nate treated her better yet again he fell in love with her when he had no experience with any other woman. They were actually good together if only Serena loved him enough and treated him with the respect he deserved.

Carter was the only one with #1 mutual love #2 unlike her other relationships, it does not seem like her being "Serena Van Der Woodsen" has anything to do with why he loves her. #3 He actually likes her for who she is as a person and connects with her emotionally #4 the girl is a spoiled brat who gets her way always and he is the only one that knocks her out of her pedestal, #5 he also treats her with respect and makes sure she feels completely loved. #6 he also does not let her disrespect him

Because modern tv shows and the social media area have this ridiculous "ship" and "end game" culture which means writers remove any romantic suspense and evolution from their shows in favour of pleasing the "ship" fans. The same thing is happening on Pretty Little Liars.
