What was with Helios' back?

There was a scene with Helois and one of his creations where we see him from behind and it looks like his back is open and his spine is exposed. Anyone know what's up with that?

Must be part of how he has made his body
regenerate (immortal?)- but how could he
have operated to that extent on his own
back???

He has helpers, people who work with him that are prob among his creations. Thats the only possible explaination to that question.

But I think the back thing is part of his obsession, he cant make himself perfect so he has to make others perfect in his steed. Which explains his obsession about his wife's tiny screwups. The guy is a moron to think a beautiful woman like that is not perfect already.

I wanted to go to Danvers State, that is until I found out it was a Mental Institute.

You should read the book to get the real insight on his issues with his "wife", he had a whole bunch made up. He was really warped where she was concerned, like he wasnt with everything else too, but daym.
