The books

Actully if you read the books they're really very good! Eric Garcia is very funny and a really great writer. Although the movie wasn't too bad (atleast to me) but the books are ten times better (There are 3 so far)

And another Eric Garcia book that's better than the movie: "Matchstick Men." Give it a read, why don't you?

I just read "Cassandra French's Finishing School For Boys", which was absolutely genius. It was funny, dark, & twisted. I'd love to see a film version, BUT it'll never happen. Way too controversial in subject matter, & I'm sure many people would be offended. Men would be crying anti-male sentiment, while women would be equally claiming sexism. That's what makes the book so brilliant. Read it! Right now! GO!!! Get it! I'm serious! I'll wait....

I've read the book and you are 100% totally right. There's only two books out there that I think are funnier - Catch 22 and The Princess Bride.

Hi praise indeed. Quick note on the book Princess Bride. Everytime I would convince one of my roommates over the years to read it there would be per-ee-otic bouts of out loud laughter coming from the other room. Everytime. I love the movie for itself, the book is just different and much funnier. Catch 22 is also brilliant in both cases. I will check out the finishing school book to as I don't want to leave anyone waiting.

per-ee-otic?

...periodic...

reply

Maybe they don't like the way the word looks spelled out.

Periodic. Hehehehe

Idiotic. :O )

Thanks for the high praise. I have seen that one on Amazon, but had not ordered it yet because I just was not sure if it would be as good as the dino ones. Now I know to get it. Thanks!

Usually I agree with the idea that the books are better than the film version, but in this one (as in a few, rare others) I have to disagree. The books were very well written and I enjoyed them immensely, but I think what bothered me about them (and what the movie "fixed") was the killer-instinct response of the dino characters. I just could not wrap any type of logic around it. As posted via another thread of mine:

Having read the books, one improvement I think the film made was getting rid of that ridiculous idea of killing being an instinctual response to the point where loved ones would not be safe. While some may argue that being dinosaurs makes the characters more instinct-based and having to hide their existence from humanity has conditioned their response to lethal levels, I have to point out that these are evolved creatures. Not only are they evolved, but they are more technologically advanced than we are (skinsuits, etc...) and evolved from creatures who are no more violent, and in some cases less violent, than our own evolutionary ancestors.

I could accept it if Garcia made it a law in their culture to kill anyone who had knowledge of their existence but to make it an ingrained trait is just ridiculous.
