I know where Sanchez got his voice!!!

Check out a film called 'Memoirs of an Invisible Man' by John Carpenter that came out in 1992.

If you watch this film you will come across a character who speaks in exactly the same voice as Sanchez - it's incredible!

If the actor from Darkplace hasn't seen this film I'd be very surprised.

He does a similar kind of voice in the Mighty Boosh too.

"elephants are nice...but alpaccas are much fluffier"

reply

Yeah he's a master of it. It's so funny, too, just that tone and accent. He obviously has made a career (well..two cult british comedy shows isn't quite a career but you get me) out of it.

GOB: I'm an ideas man Michael; I think I proved that with *beep* Mountain

reply

Also he uses the same voice style in Snuff Box.

reply

i prefer reid's voice...hilarious.

though some of the words sanchez pronounces are hilarious, i.e. "CONCERRRNED"

haha i love this show

reply

It's pretty much his real voice, unbelievable i know but it is almost the same.

reply

On the Mighty Boosh extras, his voice is less deep and when he speaks it's quieter. I heard in an interview with him that he got his voice from watching those types of bad drama's as a child and realising that the actors in it originated in theatre so when they got to television, thier voices were always booming due to them having to project in a theatre.

reply

His voice is exactly the same as the volcano in the Volvis TV advert. In fact, I think it really is him.

reply

Yeah I think he plays the volcano too, my girlyfriend spotted it before me!

reply

I love it when Sanchez does that. They play it all so straight and that's what makes it funny.

reply

i always thought it was was an exaggerated james mason voice.

reply

I thought he sounded a bit like Basil Exposition from Austin Powers.

His voice reminded me of Brian Blessed!

reply

nice! maybe brian blessed with a bit of james mason thrown in

reply

To me, his voice sounds like a mix of Sean Connery and Parick Stewart.

reply

On the Opium sleeve notes it talks about how he used to listen to Basil Rathbone as a kid, probably picked it up from there...

"He said the guy killed 16 Czechoslovakians and he was an interior decorator."

reply

There's a strong vein of James Mason running through Todd Rivers.

reply

He does alot of TV work with that voice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXU9Ur9QznE - A simple ad turned into comic genius with the use of Matt Berry.

reply

yes!

reply

Love Matt Berry's voice, he puts it to good work on everything I've seen him, everytime the Volvic advert comes on tv too I'm there listening to him lol

reply

I saw a clip of Peter O'Toole being interviewed in 1963 last night, and his voice and appearance were pure Todd Rivers.

reply

He does the same voice on the I.T crowd.

Republicans dont watch stand up, theyre busy watching cartoons, trying to see who's gay.

reply

I'd agree with the earlier poster who said he sounds like Basil Expedition (Michael York). If you watch Austin Powers or Logan Run, it sounds pure Sanch - or rather Sanch sounds very Michael York.

reply

cracked up on your sig

reply

WHAT!!....am i holding a crock of sh!t.....tell me something.....is this hospital called saint crock of sh!t

Could listen to the guy all day

he should consider voice overs and audio books (horror and science fiction) with a voice like that

reply

ha ha watching it now - I posted the same thing on that board!!!

it is impossible to watch that film now!

reply

I know man, his voice is just so unbelievably fruity and ridiculous. His masterpiece is the even-less-well-known "AD-BC: A Rock Opera". It's just fantastic. ah, here it is:

maybe bittorrent it, £7 is a lot to pay for 1 half an hour show

Todd rivers found his voice in a treasure chest at the bottom of the ocean.

I`m a ghost and you`re not

reply

James Mason meets Michael York definitely

No Justice Just Us

reply

The actor (Matt Berry) uses the same accent in pretty much every thing he does, and always plays a fairly similar character. Watch him in The Mighty Boosh and The IT Crowd.

These bastards!

reply

Hey mate, which character is it? In which scene of Memoirs?
