"Rock On!" episode....

The Comedy Network in Canada airs "Corner Gas" every night at 6:30pm.

Coincidental that the episode "Rock On!" aired this week.
The band that rehearsed in Brent's garage was none other than The Tragically Hip!

As one may/may not know, they have announced their farewell tour. Gord Downie, the lead singer, has a terminal form of brain cancer.

Tickets went on sale on Friday, June 3rd. As one might expect, shows were quick to sell out.
For instance, the one in London, ON, it sold out in 22 minutes. I was surprised that it took THAT long to sell out. I said it would sell out in FOUR minutes. 

While living in the USA a long time ago, I had taken years of music lessons and played professionally in a band. And living in Canada today, I still play my guitar as a hobby.
Although I enjoy watching Corner Gas, I was not aware that it was the band "Tragically Hip" that appeared in the "Rock On" episode. Until this year, I had never heard of that band. The first time was just a few months ago when Canadian radio stations revealed the fact that the band's lead singer was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor.
Judging by the popularity of their farewell tour and the resulting publicity, I am surprised that I was not aware of them sooner.

When it was revealed that the Tragically Hip were going to appear on the show, it was Brent who had said there were about 500 people claiming they worked on the show. But...in actuality, they were there just to see "The Hip". 

They....are an acquired taste. Since they are CANCON (Canadian Content), quite a few songs made their way into commercial Canadian radio.

You want to talk unaware?

I wasn't even aware that CBC was going to pre-empt their Olympic coverage to broadcast the Hip's final concert live from their hometown of Kingston, ON.
I was visiting my brother, my sister-in-law, my niece and my nephew that weekend. I watched the final concert with them, along with my father.

Honestly, I didn't give it much thought to watch it. In retrospect, I'm glad I did. 
