The Corner Gas / Ruby buildings

Looking at the Corner Gas filming location in the town of Rouleau in Google Earth, the satellite image is from 2002, and it is an empty field just two years before the show aired.

Copy/paste the following into Google Earth to see:

50°11'32.20" N 104°54'49.31" W

Does anyone know if they built the building specifically for the show?

Just curious.

The site chosen for the Corner Gas station and the Ruby Cafe was an empty field before the Corner Gas television program began filming in the summer of 2003. A construction crew was hired to build those two buildings from scratch. Other existing buildings in the community were converted temporarily for the show.

I don't know if it was because of the temporary construction or vandalism, but between the time when the Corner Gas television program filming ended in 2008 and the Corner Gas movie being filmed in 2014, extensive repairs were required on those two buildings that the CTV network paid for.

Although the town of Rouleau attempted to use the set as a tourist attraction when no filming was occurring, they could not afford to maintain any of the sets. And the CTV network was not interested in providing any financial help for a set they no longer needed after filming ended.

The existing office building that was converted into a grocery store for the Corner Gas show burned down in the fall of 2014. Remember how the sign had missing letters and appeared as "FOO MAR T" when it was supposed to be "FOOD MARKET"? And because of foundation problems, the Corner Gas station and Ruby Cafe were demolished in the fall of 2016.
