Warning: User Comments look like shills planted by flacks

The two User Comments for this production, by users smil_ing4 and summerchk, respectively, look not like genuine comments, but rather like publicity shills posted by people involved with the film or close to the production in some respect.

Those who wrote the comments (with the exception of mats_lundberg) gave the movie ten stars and unequivocal praise, and they have not written comments for any other title at the IMDb - usually a telltale sign. Furthermore, they use wild overstatements and hyperbole ("a film unlike any in modern day," "It is one of the best movies I've ever seen," etc) and both comments share very similar sentences and ideas (e.g., "I hope that Dark Forest will continue making wholesome yet entertaining movies like 'Smile.'" and "I hope to see more of the ideas of Dark Forest.")

You could argue that perhaps they were both genuinely touched by the movie, but quite frankly, the movie looks sappy and simple, and both authors seem too "polished" to be writing from an unbiased position. Plus, no one writes things like "I hope to see more of the ideas of Dark Forest," Dark Forest being a PRODUCTION COMPANY (production companies don't really have ideas, particularly not ones an average moviegoer can appreciate).

"I hope to see more of the ideas of Dark Forest. And, how interesting is it that most of the filming was done in China. Nice job!"

I think I have to agree with you. What I found odd was that the time they registered and the time they were active is the same date as they did their review. They have never been back or made another comment since. Kinda odd. I also have never heard someone want to see more ideas from a production company?? Plus, films are made in China all the time...how is that interesting??

this is a really interesting thread. it's ashame how easy it is for such things to occur. with a little more subtlty (giving the movie an 8 or 9, not being so gushing and over the top, maybe tossing in a few intentional spelling errors) i could see this becoming a standard advertising ploy of the movie industry, and how would we ever know? as a movie buff i rely on these message boards to exchange genuine ideas.
that bing said, i must take exception to the statement "no one" is interested in production companies. there are some extreme movie fans around here, speaking only for myself, the first example that popped into my head was dark castle entertainment, created by robert zemekis, and i do seek out their work as they generally release creepy movies with good special effects (i liked haunted hill and 13 ghosts best, more recent entries like ghostship and gothika i felt were weaker) and no, i don't work for them. it started with directors in the 30's and 40's (john houston, billy wilder, etc) and now producers are becoming stars in their own right, it is not uncommon to see "from executive producer jerry bruckheimer" in a preview, because th studios know that we know the name. how long before we see "coming soon, featuring sound design by scott so and so..."
i dunno. okay, i'm done ranting now.

Why buy when you can try?!?!

But how lame is that really that these a**holes go as far as to sit in these board rooms and write that crap in order to pad pockets. Maybe the movie is good-- I havent seen it, but I would hestitate based on lame statements like "how interesting it was filmed in China..." NOT!
