POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING!
I agree that Killzone is the best FPS on the PS2. I use to own both a PS2 and Killzone and I thought it was a great game. I own an XBOX 360 now and I have played many games over the past decade and a half on many different consoles, most of the games I've played are FPS's and I still think it's the best FPS out of all of them I've played. Infact, Killzone is my favorite game to date. I admit that there are a lot of bugs in it though. The AI can be pretty stupid at times, sometimes when you died your body would dance around on the ground, sometimes in the campaign mode I noticed that when you looked at an ally, his face would change from being detailed to not detailed, some graphical glitches here and there too. But overall Killzone has what I want most out of a FPS.
It has realism, although it takes place in the not to distant future, they made it feel and look like a realistic future. It has sweet realistic weapons that are all projectile based, no lasers or plasma weapons(I hate plasma and laser weapons). It has superb animations, when you reload, vault over low objects, climb and climb down ladders, sprint and melee, it looks absolutely great and realistic. It has great controls and options, I love how you can program any action to any button, I also love how you can choose if the crouch is toggle or hold. Great multiplayer and great character models for enemies and allies. It has great audio, from the orchestrated music to the gritty noises of gun fire and everthing inbetween. The graphics aren't the best by a long shot, but they do something other games like Killzone with near perfect graphics don't accomplish, they accomplished giving the game a gritty real war atmosphere.
Something I didn't like about Killzone was how the story started off great but through-out the game it went down hill. It started off that you were a grunt Captain fighting against the Helghast that has invaded your colony planet. Then the story got epic, suddenly the fate of the entire colony rested solely on your shoulders. I didn't like that at all. I preferred playing as a common soldier, not an epic hero. This is just my opinion. My reasons as to why I love Killzone. I no longer own it or own a PS2 because I wanted a variety of good games that the XBOX/XBOX 360 have, not just one great game(even if it is my favorite game).
