not the worst horror film

there's a lotta hate.. but comparing to some other horror films it holds it's own.

I'm also happy no sequel and/or prequel was made.
still an enjoyable watch today!

Far from the worst. I really enjoy this movie and will never understand the hate that it gets.

I rewatched it last night for the first time in approximately 15 years.

It holds up relatively well. You can see the influence of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Wrong Turn (2003) and even Tourist Trap (1979).

Decent prodution values with the House of Wax itself being quite cool and making for a grand finale. A couple of gruesome scenes, the acting is decent and Elisha Cuthbert fills out a white vest like no other.

Pretty solid across the board. I was surprised at how long it was at 1hr50. I assumed it was one of those 1hr30 slasher flicks but it spent a bit more time with the build up. Some of the death scenes came quite late into the film. In saying that it didn't drag or anything, the pacing was fine.

yeah i also find this movie spends a lil more time developing the characters and that's totally cool with me.
i also enjoyed the main actress got pretty mangled toward the end..

true horror survivor!

I definitely agree with the fact that is heavily influenced by Texas chainsaw massacre.

There were some ridiculously stupid decisions made, even by horror movie standards. And some things just didn't make sense, like the lack of decomposition of the bodies inside the wax.

It does have some creepy visuals and atmosphere, though. I'd give it maybe a 6/10, being a little generous. There have been worse remakes in recent years.

reply

Yeah it’s not bad at all. I have seen a lot worse.
