A fun watch for horror/slasher fans

Wrong Turn meets Hostel meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003). If you've seen those movies, this one won't offer you a lot of new ideas, but it's still enjoyable, at least I liked it quite a bit. It was mostly working with the clichés we've come to know from movies of the same genre, but for some reason it didn't bother me (maybe because I haven't watched films like this for a while). It was suspenseful, it was pretty scary, I thought it was very well directed and photographed, and the female lead gave a very solid performance.

I would definitely recommend watching it for horror/slasher fans.

It's actually better than it has any right to be. It's still just a simple slasher of course, but the setting was fantastic and really added a lot to the movie. Plus the practical effects of the gore scenes were very well done, it was great to see a lack of cgi. It's better than all the pg-13 crap coming out anyway.

I agree. Great setting and the cliches didn't bother me here either. A predictable movie but a fun movie.

I remember watching it in theatre and it was a fun ride! everyone enjoyed it

reply

That's how I feel.

I didn't get the hate for this movie.

Granted it wasn't Shakespeare, but it wasn't really meant to be. If you like cheesy slasher horror movies, I don't see why you'd hate this.

I think it got a bit of flack for having Paris Hilton in it, but being that all she did was play an airhead who runds round in a state of undress most of the film, there wasn't really anything that could go wrong. That's pretty much her being herself.

It was pretty decent horror film. Plus I can watch Elisha and Paris run around all day long 😀

I remember loving this as a teen. Really have to see it again to consolidate it as a good flick. But as of right now is one of the better horror remakes IMO

reply

Actually it's not a bad movie. It's a lot of fun. People just like to complain about remakes.

I love this movie. I’ve seen it many times. The backstory is interesting and the house and all the wax stuff is cool. The characters, on the other hand, are all idiot tropes and it really bothers me. I wish the writer had taken some time to write more realistic characters. The list of ridiculous actions is quite long in this one but I still love it.

I love this movie too and I'm not even a horror fan because as you mentioned, horror movies like this are usually full of stupid characters doing every idiot tropes they could find.

I think the inclusion of Paris Hilton actually helped the suspension of disbelief. By noticing that she was in the film, the whole thing becomes a meme (at the time Paris Hilton was a popular representation of idiotic and silly shenanigans) therefore it somehow made the audience to be more accepting to the list of ridiculous actions the characters do than if all the cast were serious real actors.

In a way, Paris Hilton actually adds to the enjoyment of this movie. At least that's what I felt back then.

I loved it back in the earlys 00s. I watched it a few times on DVD.

I'm planning a rewatch soon for the first time in probably 15 years. I'm glad to see users here and on other sites genuinely praising the film, I hope it still delivers for me personally.
