Strange fact.

It's been a long time since I've played IW, and I've just finished DX again today. As far as I remember, in IW it is assumed that you merged with Helios AND destroyed Area 51. That is plausible, because after you merge with Helios JC still has the fate of Area 51 in his (and Helios') hands. However there is an inconsistency here: Why would Helios destroy the Aquinas Hub? Why would it hamper its own ability to see the content of every single electronic communication message around the world?

Well, that's not my point. The thing is, in Area 51, just before you see Bob Page for the first time, there are a few containment vats, for supposed clones. You see JC Denton's name in one of them, so it is assumed that it's where he was born. I automatically assumed that Alex Denton from IW was the clone in the other vat, labeled "Alex Denton".

There comes the problem: In order to achieve the "Dark Age" plot development, it IS necessary that JC, at some point, blows up Area 51. So how come you are playing Alex Denton in IW? How didn't he get destroyed along with Bob Page, Area 51, Aquinas Hub, and everything else? Is it possible that JC/Helios deliberately awakened Alex, to use him to achieve his own goals? If so, what implications would this have on IW's storyline?

Yeah I though long and hard on that one too.. and I guess there is no real solution even for the devolpers.. they had to have some Continuity errors.. thats what happens when you amake a sequel for a game with Multiple ending possibilities.

JC didnt destory A51 by purpose,it was a result of an incompatiable merge with Helios- but the Alex D thing is probably continuity error- also notice the project director in IW has the same voice as Walton Simons-so he might be the then underdeveloped clone Wade Walker (both Stan and Simons were voiced by Tom Hall),so there...

Actually, talking about Alex Denton's presence in Area 51 in Deus Ex 1 makes me wonder why they removed his existence from the recreation of Area 51 that is in the JC Denton/Helios Ice house.

As is stated, some of his memories are recreated in the ice, one of which is the room where the clone vats were found in Deus Ex 1, yet they're all empty and unlabelled.

This also brings up a little reinforcement for what someone said previously in this thread regarding Alex being moved by JC.

Then the question remains: who was Wade Walker? Or rather who was he supposed to be?

reply

Actually, I think that was intentional. The whole ice sequence was a memory and it's likely that JC would try to block out these memories. The fact that he's arguably unstable or even mad is a key argument of the order and other factions.

"Do you really want a world made in his image?". I think that's what Billy says about him. If so it hints at a god/messiah complex.

So JC repressing his clone vat shows some part of him is still resisting what has happened to him.

Maybe Alex is a common name?

I was thinking that, it was mentioned in IW that he was the end of failed tries, or something to that effect? But if that was true, Alex would be younger. He looks the 20 years that have passed since JC. I guess I'll have to resign myself to continuity...

In the end, Okonkwo threw the Cat.
