Why All the Hate?

I don't get it. Sure it's not the greatest movie ever made but its a teen flick. Decent storyline, competent acting, decent SFx. I know it didn't follow the book but its not exactly the first movie not to follow the novel it was based off. In some parts it's actually better than the book. In the book, Vivien wasn't exactly the most likable character.

No hate here...I loved the movie. Saw it first, then got the book and read it. I was fine with it being different from the book.

I didn't hate it, because I was so happy that they were making a movie to begin with as it is legitimately my favorite book of all time! I love the characters and the premise and it is written so well! However, the movie strays SO FAR from the book and especially the ending which is nearly unforgivable. How can you have the main character end up with the opposite person than she ends up with in the book? It negates the entire meaning of the story as in the book she goes w/her BLOOD (Gabriel) and yet in the movie she goes with CHOCOLATE (Aiden); I can't believe the writer of the book allowed this.

reply

Bookwise, Gabriel was clearly the better choice but honestly the message I got from it was "Stick with your own kind because outsiders will fear and hate you" which really isn't the best to say esp in today's world. Moviewise, I think they made the better choice as Aidan is older (than his novel counterpart) and more grounded whereas Gabriel is a vengeful psychopath.

See, the message I got from Vivian ending up with Gabriel was that it was right for her to follow her deepest instincts. Although she loved Aiden, her attraction to Gabriel & instinct to be w/him was deeper and running off w/him in the end allowed her to be wild and free. I appreciate the different angle that the movie provided, but in the end I strongly prefer what the book did. Gabriel wasn't a vengeful psychopath in the book, so the movie kind of butchered his character. I do have to say though, I LOVE who they cast as Vivian, she was perfect at least.

I liked Gabriel in the book. In the movie, and this probably has more to do with the fact that I don't like Oliver Martinez that much, I didn't care one bit for him. He was using her aunt as a booty call and was about to claim Vivian as his mate. That was too much to swallow.

He was the pack leader; macho and headstrong.. in the book, this wasn't necessarily a bad thing- it just made his character stronger and more interesting. The chemistry between Vivian/Gabriel in the book seemed intense, dangerous yet deeply romantic, whereas with Aiden, she was just drawn to him because he was different and not expected of her. It made more sense that she'd end up with Gabriel because her wolf side was deeply rooted, intense and inescapable.
