I have a theory on why they misbehaved in the FIRST place.

It isn't that their mother died, it isn't that their dad is preoccupied, what with remarrying and all, it's... -dun dun dun-

THEY HAVE A FREAKIN' GUILLOTINE IN THEIR ROOM!

I think that they thought that the only time they ever got attention from there father after there mothers death is when they misbehaved.

I don't know though.

I think the mother didn't give them a lot of rules, in the first place. Remember the kids got to eat candies, pastries and jello when they were sick. Plus, they were allowed to speak rudely to the servants without punishment.

Doesn't strike me as the Brown children were ever taught to behave correctly in the first place. With or without a mother.

Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not.

Victorian children may not have been taught much by upper middle class parents in any case. If one believes many of the books, their governesses and other tutors were responsible for much of their characters.

They need a mother that loves them.

Occur to anyone that the OP's theory was tongue-in-cheek.....?
