because i cant in all honesty understand how someone any older could enjoy this

I think this is supposed to be a family film. I am 17, I personally really enjoyed it, despite the fact it is VERY loosely based on the book, thanks to the exquisite visual detail and the gorgeous music. Plus Tim Curry is in it, such a brilliant and underrated actor, he has definitely been better than he was here but he wasn't unbearably awful, for he is quite melancholy and antagonistic. I also liked the fact Dakota Blue Richards is spunkier here, her character in "Golden Compass" reminded me too much of Varucca Salt in Tim Burton's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"(in my opinion that was a disappointing film).

I think it's a family film but is best suited for under 10 year olds. I'm 45 and I really enjoyed it though. It was a simple but enjoyable story.

I am 23 and bought it because i had read the book and enjoyed the book. the movie wasn't terrible, but it could have been better if it were more closely related to the book. the dresses "maria" wore were HORRENDOUS! especially the pink one with the odd bands on back...looked like the cat got a hold of it...and where was her dog? her dog played a big role in the book, but is not in this movie. Serena also doesn't play a big role in the movie either (her saved rabbit). wrolf was the MOST disappointing character! he is just a big dog with red eyes! in the book there was much more to him! i wish the movie followed the book more...the plot of the book was MUCH better and less choppy than this, yet if we just judge it as a movie, and not as a book based movie, it's okay, i guess...

One thing that makes me nervous about this for younger children is that at the climax Maria jumps off the cliff into the water, then is "resurrected" so to speak on the back of the white horse. I have some friends who over the summers put on a freebie "family movie" program in a neighborhood park and I was going to suggest this movie to them, but that climactic scene makes me nervous, whether it's the kind of thing a very young child (and there are, I think, some of them in the neighborhood who might be coming) could try to imitate. It's one thing when parents show something like this to their kids in the privacy of their own homes, but it's another thing when it's shown in public by a neighborhood community group.

I think I might just suggest that my friends use Labyrinth (1986), the Jim Henson movie with David Bowie. Labyrinth has scary scenes in it, but I don't see anything that might encourage a very young child to do something dangerous.

I have adult children and they and my husband all enjoyed this film. I think under age of 7 would be a bit scary for some kids, but it clearly is a family film. I think it can be enjoyed by all ages. It helps if you have read the book, or read it after, but I still enjoyed the film.

I think if I were a little girl under the age of 10 and hadn't seen many movies, this would be one of my favorite movies of all time. It was very simple and beautiful to look at, especially the clothing. It had a unicorn and a black lion in it so I loved that.

Unfortunately, for me, I am 44 years old and have seen way too many movies for this one to have been interesting. It was an inoffensive diversion, but not something I would recommend to other adults.

It's perfect to watch with children though.

I'm 27 and I enjoyed it. It feels like a "family" movie, not so much a "kid's" movie. I was not really expecting to like it much but I needed something to watch at work today, I tried two independent horror movies that were so cheaply made and badly acted I couldn't get very far, so then this was the third choice, was surprised at how much I enjoyed it as a simple distraction. The cast is great, the sets are beautiful, the story is simple but fun enough. I would have LOVED it if I was a kid.

Judging by your non-existent writing skills, you are under 10, so enjoy :)
