Brits = Evil........Again!,,, ???

Bowler hat
Evil
Bad teeth

Must be British

When WILL Hollywood give the false stereotypes a rest?
It's starting to get tiresome.

What exactly is it about the British that frightens and threatens Merica so much?

reply

Whoa

I dont recall any statement that said Goob was meant to represent any Brit other than himself. It's a silly movie with a suitably silly antagonist

Let me let you in on a little secret you clearly are ignorant of: The British make fun of Americans constantly. Monty Python did a sketch once that showed an American movie producer as a cigar chomping, cowboy hat wearing nutcase. Douglas Adams based Zaphod Beeblebrox on the American image-concious president. There was even a dog in the first book called "Know-Nothing Bozo" because his hair looked like a certain US President.

As a side note, you want to know how Japanese stereotype Americans? Watch an episode of "Gunsith Cats"

And as an American, you wanna know what I think? That's cool.

Stereotypes frickin' happen. Particularly in entertainment. And the British fling stereotypesat THEMSELVES constantly. Douglas Adams based the Vogons on the British buracracy. The Monty Python song "Every sperm is Sacred" lampoons impoverished British catholics. "Keeping Up Appearances" chronicles the life of a snobby woman with a chav family who makes others lives Hell as she tries one social climbing scheme after another and falls flat on her face.

And I seem to remember an ep of "Scrapheap Challenge" where Robert Llewellyn had his American counterpart from "Junkyard Wars" come visit and they start trying to one-up each other by trying to act like the most obnoxious stereotype of each others country, and they were laughing so hard they were in tears.

America loves our British allies. (Save for Obama, who really IS a know-nothing bozo with an axe to grind with Imperialism)

So why don't you go unclench those ass cheeks and stop being a wanker, Chumley?

reply

Why the hell would anybody assume that Goob is meant to be British?
He doesn't SOUND British.

The voice actor isn't British himself.

Snoogans.

reply

Okay. First of all, there is nothing that even remotely suggests that "Bowler Hat Guy" is British.

Second of all: If anyone is endorsing stereotypes, it's you. You are the one who made the assumption that "Bowler Hat Guy" is British because he is an evil man who wears a bowler hat and has bad teeth.

And finally, we're not afraid of the British. And it's not "Merica." It's America. It's not that difficult to spell, and referring to my home country as "Merica" makes you look like a doof.

reply

The reason Goob has bad teeth is that he never had any prents to pay for dental work.

He looks like he was more designed after the Snidely Whiplash stereotypical silent film villain than anything

reply

He has an American accent!

You yourself are enforcing negative stereotypes by implying that everyone who has bad teeth is British.

You know what would make this lemonade better? Bleach. Excessive amounts of bleach.
