this movie was god awful but the only thing I liked was...her loft.

This movie blew. I just finished watching it for the second time in 3 years and even that was too soon... Neve looked cute but her hair was annoying as *beep*

BUT ... the APARTMENT was amazing. I live in NYC and was trying to figure out where it was located and my first guess was Upper West Side or perhaps Brooklyn. Neve said the address of her apartment when she reported the homicide but I have never heard of that street before, which doesn't mean anything b/c there are little side streets all over the place.

Anyway... the apartment was amazing. Not that I would boink Count Olaf but it was a great loft and made the movie almost bearable to watch.

I can see what the movie was trying to be and what Neve was trying to do with it. I think she partly succeeded for her first 'adult' role but damn... getting naked (and showering/masturbating in an AWESOME BATHROOM) and successfully pulling off a ruse like she did still does not make for a great film.

if I win the 80 million dollar lottery I am finding out where it is and I'm moving in there.

and *beep* mike tyson.

They used this same apartment in Purple Violets. In that movie the guy mentioned that it was in West Chelsea (I think) but it could of just been them assigning it a location vs. it's actual location.

The same apartment was also used in Sex and the city, in the episode where Samantha is looking for a new apartment. The one where her real estate agent askes her not to use another agent than her.

That was a cool place...While I don't live in NYC I shouldn't have a clue what it would cost, either rent or buy? Anyone want to take a guess? Who knows it might not look as good without the red filter on the camera lens...That killed so much detail.

Same apartment was used in an episode of Law & Order CI, I wonder if it is a real apartment or just a set since it shows up in so many movies.television shows?

I saw the comments here re this apartment and decided to give some background info on the place.

I've actually be to an art gallery party at this large loft, at the time it was owned by a friend of the person who invited me to the art opening. The owner told us they indeed did rent out their loft for movies, TV shows and art events.

IIRC, it's a three level loft, the owner lived on the third level. In fact, they had to keep reminding people not to go upstairs because that was their personal living space!

This loft has been used in many films, the film with Eddie Murphy and Halle Berry "Boomerang" was filmed there as well as "Two Girls and a Guy" with Robert Downey and Heather Graham, in fact the director James Toback has used this same exact loft for about three of his films.

IIRC, the loft is on Bethune Street, on the very west side of the West Village. In fact, the building Neve Campbell is shown entering is not the same building where the loft is, the outside didn't look familiar to me at all. I recall the outside of the building being either white or a light gray, definitely not red bricks.

Unfortunately I also remember, there wasn't much of a view from that loft, from that vantage point you won't see the Empire State Building or much of the iconic Manhattan skyline, which you can see from certain parts of Brooklyn and Long Island City Queens.

There was a nice large outdoor terrace which the party guests were allowed to use. I attended the art gallery party in the late Spring or early Summer, the weather was perfect for going on the terrace.

Westbeth artist lofts are also in the same area of the West Village, "The Guitar", with Saffron Burroughs, was filmed there, those Westbeth lofts are huge!

you'd think she'd spend some bucks to get some post-1950's windows. just a touch drafty.

You stay classy, San Diego.

This movie blew so you watched it TWICE??? Where do IMDb posters live that makes it compulsory to watch and RE-watch films that they really hate? Thank God, where I live, if I dislike a movie I never have to see it or even think about it again!

reply

I thought I would give it a 2nd chance... and I was wrong wrong wrong for doing so. Have you really never watched a movie you disliked again?

And where does the location of where someone lives have anything to do with their movie watching habits?

Character is what you are in the dark.

Some people are into 'real estate porn', especially New Yorkers! I have several friends who are real estate agents, they are obsessed with talking about all the different types of spaces in NYC, they also watch most of the shows on HGTV.

Sometimes a house, loft or apartment is just as important to a film or TV series as the scripts and actors/actresses are! Do you remember when many viewers wondered about Monica Geller's apartment on "Friends", how she afforded such a large apartment in NYC's Greenwich Village? How about Norman Bates iconic house, the Bates Motel, in "Psycho"?

I really disliked this film intensely, Neve Campbell's character was as repulsive as her obnoxious hustler boyfriend, yet, I've seen this film several times, just to be inside the main character's apartment again.

As I watched, I was thinking, "I was standing over there and yes, that bathroom was huge and gorgeous...though the gray was kind of depressing."

In fact, while I was at the art gallery party in this loft, I even took some photos of the bathroom!
