If Jeremy had raped Gloria instead of the other way around...

And then she decided she liked it afterwards, and they got married, do you think it would piss people off?

reply

Obviously it would, rape is a taboo subject at the best of times, with good reason.

But, this was a comedy playing on the fact that we men are supposedly just penises with bodies attached, we are horny devils who think about sex every 6 seconds. If someone were to rape a man then it would either have to be by another man, or it'd have to be violent, or it'd have to include the insertion of toy trainset carriages in the guys arse otherwise a good proportion of men would not consider it rape. They'd call it "magical spontaneous-sex with a stranger" instead.

The subject matter is no laughing matter, despite my risqué attempt at humour above, but throughout the animal kingdom males are pretty much just horny hunters, females do everything that prolongs a specific race or species, the male simply acts as the first line of physical defence and provides sperm when needed.

The reason the vast, VAST majority of rapes commited are man-on-woman is nothing to do with guys being physically stronger, or an assertion of power (as some may have you believe, yeah we all want to be the president), or "just because we can", it's because sex is primal with males, to spread our genes far and wide and try to repopulate Earth with our, and only our, offspring. It's nature and - horrendous as this sounds - rape is part of nature.

What makes humans unlike animals is that "natural" yet immoral or bestial acts like rape, murder, theft, etc are frowned upon with obviously good reason, what we like to call 'civility', but that doesn't stop some heinous monsters thinking they are above the law.

Sorry about the rant... I suppose to cut a long natter short I could have just said "rape doesn't happen to dudes as often as it does to women, so it's ok to laugh about it!"

Odd species we are, very odd...

Opinions are just onions with pi in them.

"They'd call it "magical spontaneous-sex with a stranger" instead."

Just this - I personally have a reason to believe that even IF it happened in that way, as in, the perpetrator was a woman and a victim a man, even if it wasn't done with objects etc and whatnot, I imagine the act itself would still be physically painful and emotionally traumatizing at least to a degree, and a man in question would not JUST consider it "spontaneous unwanted sex" and move on.

Besides, what if he got an STD from it?

reply

By the way ladies and gentlemen, is what RAF 33 here said ACTUALLY true? Does it have merits to it?

And I say again - if rape and sexual assault in traditional circumstances with male perpetrators is considered undeniably terrible, why is it "so different" then if a perpetrator is female and even if there are some differences perhaps, is it still not in its own category rather bad still? Besides law and obvious morals attached.

And Mr 33 - are you not personally afraid of receiving backlash for such a post, bearing in mind the times we live in?

I've had moments by the way when I attempted to discuss the topic from such angle and I got in trouble for it but also rather depressed and put off in the process. And I didn't find it in me at the time to like you know defend myself in here too.

But who or even what stance is RIGHT here? (Yeah, haha, I hear ya - "its always bad and wrong", mmkay, cheers.)

"Odd species we are, very odd..."
Yeah, that too, but also, we are very divided but then some of us are naive, stupid etc others are more clever and enlightened too.

reply

The point about me having received backlash at the time was that I have also wondered about this from that point of view but I was told angrily by certain folks about how bad it is in any case etc with some folks being rather put off by the fact that I felt like discussing it and whilst being still against it, wondered, for a myriad of reasons, how bad it is in comparison to "traditional" and already well known examples as such.

Also funny how, but it seems like this area is the only topic with such controversy.

Granted, yeah, we do sometimes talk about male and female say wrong doers and if they are to be treated same or differently. And films also have this one trope known as a beautiful female villain trope which is also popular or at least existent in pop culture and movies especially.

But if say we talked about murder or even beatings and say acts of theft it would not cause as much controversy. But add this sexual abuse and sexual violence/violation, the r word etc angle, and people debate in many say forums and posts, especially if a film happens to be popular.

And this matter isn't even looked at say "good guys" and "bad guys" (OK even if "villains" happen to be female also) type of dichotomy and dynamic or good versus evil. Even though in many films the male perps often ARE portrayed as outright VILLAINS. OK I will move on and stop talking and especially thinking too much.

And in MY case on the internet, and also for a variety of other reasons, with me being a naive and sensitive folk myself, I just fell under the proverbial hot handle but I am alright and I don't blame anyone, even though I apologize myself. )

These two adults have been having many bouts of sex in different places and at different times, including under the table at dinner, over the past 12 hours. She tries a little S&M on him, and he is being raped? I don't think so.

Yes, Jeremy quips that he was "raped" the next morning, but who are we kidding here; this was not rape like Jodie Foster in the Accused.

reply

He didn't want to have sex, so actually yeah that is technically rape. She tied him up and had sex with him against his will,so it would actually be rape.

reply

Aha, let him try that line at the police station. He'd be laughed out of there faster than you can spit.

Double standard? Maybe, but check this out: a friend of mine bedded 3 girls no older than 16 year old (we're in Mexico BTW) in less than a month (personal trainer and a REAL slimebag), but his latest "conquest" was like 14 and he used roofies, so he was kinda worrying he pushed his luck too hard. And guess what he did? He went to the cops and claimed HE had been raped by HER (she spiked his drink with roofies). Thing is, when she went to actually complain against him, she was not believed due to him beating her to the punch (filing his BS compliant first).

How's that? He's right now dead BTW, OD on steroids I think...

reply

He WOULD have been "laughed out of there" ... but not because it's ridiculous for a man to be raped. He'd be laughed out of there because society is so screwed up that they think it's impossible for a man to not want sex at any given moment. It's disgusting.

Not only that, someone CAN "want" sex and still be raped. If I'm dirty dancing with someone at a club, does that give him permission to rape me? If I'm making out with my new boyfriend, does that give him permission to rape me? If I sometimes fantasize about my co-worker, does that give him permission to rape me? Pathetic logic there.

And your "friend" is a sociopathic, disgusting animal. For you to call him a "friend" really makes me question your humanity. Shame on you.

This was your friend???

He didn't want to have sex with her, and he told her so many times. She literally tied him up and mounted him against his will. It was rape.

Generally speaking, rape is about power and penetration. In this instance, she was trying to be kinky and playful and not trying to impose any actual harm on him - mentally or physically. So yeah...it was against his will (-ish) and I'm not defending her behavior because no always means no but it was a comedy and I don't think they were making light of rape.

reply

Yeah okay I'm sure many guys must have been surprised when using the "I just wanted to have sex with her not cause physical or mental harm" excuse didn't get them out of prison. What a stupid comment.

reply

Rape is rape, he didn't want to do it and she forced him!

reply

I feel really sorry for VVs character in this film- he's raped and abused in this film and no one seems to care... Including his best friend.... And later he marries the girl?!?

reply

It doesn't matter how often you have sex with someone. Having sex before, no matter how often, is not consent to have sex every time. Sex without consent is rape period.

reply

youre a fucking idiot, that's the definition of rape. both parties have to consent to sex otherwise it is rape. I see how these feminist bitches like to contradict themselves and change things around when the victim isn't a woman.

reply

They would have to bring in Todd Akin to determine whether or not it was a legitimate rape or not. He´d ask Gloria if her body shut that whole thing down!

The only simpleton here is you and you obvious lack of knowing what rape actually is. But please continue being an ignorant troll and showing people how pathetic you are.

reply

[deleted]

Did we watch the same movie, because in the scene everyone is talking about he very clearly did not enjoy it and actually said he was raped. Also you do know just because someone "enjoys" it doesn't mean it isn't rape. Seriously get help because you are one sick person.

Since the administrator decided to delete all my posts I am going to post this again. Gloria did not rape Jeremy at all for the love of God ppl need to educate themselves on what constitutes real rape. As made clear in the film Gloria was a very hyper sexual person and Jeremy deep down loved it and that is why he married her at the end of the film.

I would love to have a girlfriend like Gloria btw would be sooooo much fun.

reply

They were probably deleted to save you the embarrassment of anyone reading them. But here you are just undoing their good work.

reply

Yep, it probably wouldn't sit as well with people. Double standards; what are you gonna do?

reply

I would give my left nut for Isla Fisher to do what she did to him in this movie.

reply

There were four instances of sexual assault against male characters in this movie. Gloria touching Jeremy at the table after he tried to get her her to stop, Kathleen pressuring John to touch her breasts, Gloria after she tied up Jeremy, and then Todd taking advantage of Jeremy's tied of state.
