Ending

I just (almost) finished watching this movie. The DVD stopped just short of the ending and even though I've cleaned it and tried it several times, refuses to play. Can somebody please tell me what happened right at the end?

SPOILER

I got to the phone call between the divine Mr Quinn and Kelly Preston. AQ's last line was "the important thing now is that she knows her sister tried to help her in the end".

Hi bodwod,

SPOILER for those who have not seen the ending of the film

Connie Nielsen's character is released from prison and she goes home to her grandmother's cottage. She goes out and sits on a swing and watches the sunset. Then Aidan Quinn's character drives up in his car, gets out and they smile at each other. That is the end of the film. Hope that helps.

Brilliant. Thanks, lovepoetes. That saves me re-hiring it from somewhere else.

yeah its a happy ending but if you really really really think about it, it's not happy at all. the sister is dead and just all this tragedy that cory has to live with.

This is one of those films where you like to imagine what happens after it goes dark. I imagine Quinn and Nielson's characters become lasting friends. He saved her life, but he has to make amends for having deceived her (he is a defense attorney turned ghoulish journalist who collects letters from death row inmates for profit). And if I were Quinn, I know what I'd like to do with the delectable Ms. Nielson -- although the character she plays in this movie is not necessarily someone a respectable individual would want to get too close to.
